The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of a growing pharmaceutical company. This position ensures accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP while maintaining compliance with internal controls and company policies. The Staff Accountant will work closely with Finance, Procurement, Commercial, Clinical, Regulatory, and external service providers to support monthly close activities, financial reporting, audits, and operational accounting processes. The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Assistant Controller. This is a remote-based position located in the United States.
Responsibilities:
General Accounting:
- Prepare and record journal entries for month-end and year-end close
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
- Maintain supporting schedules for prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts
- Assist with monthly financial statement preparation and variance analysis
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies
Accounts Payable & Expenses:
- Review vendor invoices for accuracy and proper coding
- Process employee expense reports in accordance with company travel and expense policies
- Monitor vendor payments and resolve invoice discrepancies
- Assist with purchase order matching and invoice approvals
Cash & Treasury:
- Perform daily cash reconciliations
- Record banking transactions, wire transfers, and ACH payments
- Assist with cash forecasting and treasury reporting
- Support banking administration and account maintenance
Fixed Assets:
- Maintain the fixed asset register
- Record additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation
- Coordinate periodic physical asset verification
Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Support external audits and tax compliance by preparing requested schedules
- Assist with SOX or internal control documentation, if applicable
- Maintain accounting documentation and support records
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies
- Participate in ERP system enhancements (NetSuite preferred)
- Assist with implementation of new accounting standards and internal procedures
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA certification or CPA candidate preferred
- Minimum of 2-5 years of accounting-related experience
- Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or life sciences industry experience preferred
- Public accounting experience is a plus
- Experience with NetSuite ERP is highly preferred

The anticipated annual base salary range for this role is $115,000 to $140,000. Final compensation depends on multiple factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skillset, depth and breadth of knowledge, internal equity, and external market factors.
