Position Summary


We are seeking a licensed Distribution Line Project Engineer to serve as a technical leader and Engineer of Record for complex overhead and underground distribution line projects. This role combines hands-on engineering expertise with people leadership, technical authority, and project oversight.


In this position, you will lead the technical execution of distribution line design projects, and ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. This role provides technical authority, project oversight, and team leadership across complex overhead and underground distribution line projects. You will work closely with Project Managers and clients to deliver high-quality, compliant, and efficient engineering solutions.


This role is ideal for a seasoned line engineer who enjoys ownership, technical leadership, mentoring others, and influencing project outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the responsible Engineer of Record for distribution line projects, ensuring design accuracy, compliance, and adherence to NESC, RUS, and client standards.
  • Provide technical leadership, training, and oversight to the distribution design team, ensuring quality, consistency, and efficient delivery.
  • Lead design teams through all project phases—from concept development and feasibility through design, permitting, and construction support—providing direction and setting expectations.
  • Perform, review, and approve detailed engineering calculations, pole loading analyses, underground system designs, and sealed deliverables.
  • Collaborate with project managers to define scope, schedule, assumptions, and deliverables to support successful and efficient project execution.
  • Guide design team to complete projects within planned budget allocations and resource constraints.
  • Oversee quality control processes and drive technical excellence across the team.
  • Support construction activities through design clarifications, site visits, evaluation of field changes, and review of RFIs and change orders.
  • Represent BHMG in client meetings, presentations, and technical discussions, maintaining strong client relationships and trust.
  • Contribute to proposals and business development efforts by providing technical input, scope definition, and resource planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, designers, and technical staff; provide coaching, feedback, and career development. Delegate tasks/oversee work.
  • Facilitate team meetings, design reviews, and milestone check-ins to maintain alignment, accountability, and performance transparency.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on technical excellence, delivery reliability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related ABET-accredited engineering discipline (required)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)
  • 7+ years of distribution line design experience
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record on utility d-line projects
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical design packages and coordinate across disciplines
  • Authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship

Desired Skills & Attributes

  • Advanced knowledge of distribution engineering principles, NESC/RUS standards, and utility requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in PLS-CADD, and other distribution design tools such as GIS-based design platforms, pole loading software (SPIDAcalc/O-Calc), and AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical design packages and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead teams, while managing technical scope, budgets, and schedules across multiple projects.
  • High level of independence, accountability, and strong technical judgment.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills; strong ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams.

At BHMG, our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. The pay range for this position is $100,000.00 - $160,000.00 annual. This range encompasses multiple levels of the role. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range. In addition, this position is eligible to earn additional compensation including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance. Career level and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered.
