The sports and entertainment portfolio at COTA is unmatched in the country with Formula 1 US Grand Prix, NASCAR and MotoGP attracting global fans during championship races on the famed Circuit and Live Nation producing over 30 headline concerts every year at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. COTALAND is an amusement park with over 30 attractions and experiences, including first-of-their-kind roller coasters. 


Circuit of The Americas (COTA) is looking for a talented and practical attorney to join our legal team in Austin, Texas. This is a unique opportunity for an attorney who enjoys working across a broad range of business and legal matters in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

COTA is much more than a racetrack. Our campus is home to major motorsports events, concerts and music festivals, a large outdoor amphitheater, COTALAND amusement park, corporate and private events, hospitality experiences, and a wide variety of year-round entertainment. As a result, our legal team works on an unusually diverse mix of transactions and business issues.

Requirements

The Corporate Counsel will work closely with COTA’s business leaders and legal team on a broad range of matters across the organization. This role requires an attorney who is comfortable working across multiple areas of law, understands how businesses operate, and can provide practical, business-focused legal advice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts, including vendor, sponsorship, licensing, entertainment, event, construction, technology, and service agreements
  • Assist with real estate transactions, leases, development matters, and other property-related agreements
  • Advise on general corporate matters, governance, regulatory requirements, and corporate compliance
  • Support financing transactions and relationships with lenders and other financial partners
  • Manage intellectual property matters, including trademarks, licensing, branding, and protection of COTA and COTALAND brands
  • Partner with marketing and creative teams on advertising, promotions, sponsorships, privacy, and brand-related matters
  • Provide legal guidance to operating teams on day-to-day business matters
  • Identify legal and business risks and work with stakeholders to develop practical, commercially sound solutions
  • Facilitate litigation matters, including discovery, demand letters, depositions, and coordination of case-related activities
  • Coordinate with outside counsel when specialized legal expertise is required

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active membership and good standing with a U.S. state bar
  • At least three years of experience practicing corporate law, preferably with experience as an associate at a law firm and/or within a sophisticated in-house legal department
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: commercial contracts, real estate, corporate transactions and compliance, financing, intellectual property, licensing, branding, insurance, or litigation
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, research, and analytical skills
  • Sound business judgment and the ability to balance legal risk with practical business considerations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with business leaders and cross-functional teams
  • Collaborative, solutions-oriented approach with the ability to provide practical legal guidance in a business environment

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in entertainment, sports, hospitality, real estate development, live events, amusement parks, intellectual property, or other consumer-facing businesses is preferred but not required.
