As the General Manager, you will provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the hotel, overseeing daily operations while driving guest satisfaction, associate engagement, revenue performance, profitability, and brand standards.


The General Manager will work closely with department leaders and ownership to ensure the hotel operates efficiently and consistently delivers an exceptional experience for guests and associates. This position requires a hands-on, results-oriented leader who can build strong teams, develop talent, maintain high operational standards, and identify opportunities to improve hotel performance.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the hotel's daily operations.
  • Oversee all hotel departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering, Food & Beverage, Sales, and other operational functions.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop department leaders and hotel associates.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and hold leadership teams accountable for achieving operational and financial goals.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and service-focused work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and associate engagement.
  • Ensure exceptional guest service and promptly address guest concerns, complaints, and service recovery opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent compliance with Marriott brand standards, hotel policies, and operational procedures.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction scores, online reviews, quality assurance results, and other performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with Sales and Revenue Management to maximize occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, and overall hotel revenue.
  • Review financial statements, operating reports, forecasts, budgets, and other financial performance indicators.
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve profitability while maintaining appropriate service and quality standards.
  • Monitor departmental labor costs, staffing levels, productivity, and scheduling to ensure efficient operations.
  • Oversee purchasing, inventory management, expense control, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, food and beverage outlets, and other hotel facilities.
  • Ensure the hotel maintains a clean, safe, well-maintained, and welcoming environment for guests and associates.
  • Partner with Engineering and department leaders to address maintenance, preventative maintenance, and capital improvement needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, safety requirements, and hotel policies.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of hotel safety, security, emergency preparedness, and risk-management procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate training, onboarding, and development programs are in place for all hotel associates.
  • Support recruitment and retention initiatives and maintain appropriate staffing levels throughout the hotel.
  • Conduct regular leadership meetings and hotel-wide communication meetings to ensure alignment on goals, priorities, and operational initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Catering, and Food & Beverage leadership to maximize group, banquet, and event opportunities.
  • Attend and participate in key operational meetings, including weekly Banquet Event Order (BEO) meetings.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with guests, clients, vendors, community partners, ownership, and Marriott representatives.
  • Represent the hotel professionally within the local community and hospitality industry.
  • Monitor hotel reputation and develop strategies to strengthen the property's market position.
  • Identify opportunities to increase guest loyalty, repeat business, and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of required reports, audits, inspections, and operational documentation.
  • Lead the hotel through periods of high occupancy, special events, holidays, and other high-volume business demands.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and critical operational situations and ensure proper communication and follow-up.
  • Support and participate in hotel sales, marketing, community, and promotional initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain an active presence throughout the hotel and demonstrate a hands-on leadership approach.
  • Practice and observe all safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by ownership or senior management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive hotel management experience, with demonstrated experience in a General Manager, Hotel Manager, Director of Operations, or comparable leadership role.
  • Previous full-service or select-service hotel management experience required; Marriott experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Strong understanding of hotel operations, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering, Food & Beverage, Sales, and Revenue Management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing hotel budgets, P&L statements, labor costs, forecasting, and financial performance.
  • Proven ability to improve guest satisfaction, operational performance, revenue, and profitability.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, motivate, and retain high-performing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Marriott brand standards and hotel quality assurance programs preferred.
  • Ability to analyze operational and financial reports and develop effective action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local employment, health, safety, and hospitality regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and hotel property management, sales, revenue, and financial systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and during emergency or business-critical situations.
  • Must be highly visible and accessible to guests and associates and demonstrate a hands-on leadership style.
  • Strong commitment to exceptional guest service and associate engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hotel environment.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-oriented when handling challenging situations.
  • CPR certification required; First Aid certification preferred.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Additional language ability is a plus.
