Role Summary

 

We are seeking an experienced Mold Maintenance Tech to support injection molding operations through the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and improvement of production tooling. This hands-on role is responsible for keeping molds production-ready, diagnosing tooling-related quality issues, and ensuring molds are properly maintained to support safe, reliable, and consistent manufacturing.

The Mold Maker works closely with Molding, Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to identify root causes, complete repairs and modifications, and minimize downtime. This position plays an important role in maintaining the performance and longevity of production tooling while supporting the department's production and quality objectives.

  • Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and changeover of production molds to ensure tooling is ready for manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot mold and tooling issues that impact part quality, process performance, or production.
  • Diagnose root causes of tooling-related quality issues and perform corrective repairs to return molds to production.
  • Inspect molds and tooling to identify wear, damage, or opportunities for repair and improvement.
  • Recommend tooling repairs, modifications, and improvements to enhance mold performance, reliability, and longevity.
  • Perform visual inspections and initial sampling following repairs or mold changes to verify that tooling is functioning properly and producing acceptable parts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of mold repairs, modifications, maintenance activities, and tooling history.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory and status log of spare tooling and communicate tooling needs or concerns to appropriate leadership.
  • Work closely with the Molding Manager and Plant Manager to prioritize repairs and coordinate tooling activities based on production requirements.
  • Collaborate with Molding, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to resolve tooling and manufacturing issues.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to tooling reliability, quality, and production efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following established safety and quality procedures.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, on-site attendance.
Requirements
  • 5 + years of hands-on experience in the maintenance of multi-cavity close tolerance molds.
  • Minimum two-year technical school degree necessary with a four-year state certified apprenticeship in mold making preferred
  • Capable of interpreting blueprints, CAD and Solidworks
  • Possess a thorough understanding of mold manufacturing concepts (i.e. fitting tooling, venting, frame interlocking techniques, etc.)
  • Capable of utilizing a milling machine, surface grinder to tolerances of (.0002”)
  • Capable of working with a process technician to troubleshoot and determine necessary repairs to existing molds.
  • Thorough attention to detail
  • Capable of Micro welding and machining to repair damaged steel preferred
