We're looking for dependable, positive people who enjoy working with kids. This can be a great opportunity for high school students (16+), college students, retirees, parents, or anyone looking for meaningful part-time work.

Previous childcare experience is welcome, but it's not required. We'll provide the training you need to be successful.


 

Schedule & Locations

Afterschool Program Staff opportunities are currently available at:

  • Camden-Rockport Elementary School (CRES): 2:00 PM–5:30 PM
  • Floating Coverage|Knox County: 2:00 PM–5:30 PM

What You'll Do

As a member of our Afterschool Team, you'll help make the hours after school some of the best hours of a child's day.

You'll:

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children.
  • Lead and participate in games, arts and crafts, STEM projects, recreation, and other engaging activities.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and your teammates.
  • Support daily routines, snack service, cleanup, and program transitions.
  • Help children develop confidence, friendships, independence, and new skills.
  • Follow YMCA policies and state and local health and safety requirements.
  • Respond appropriately to behavior concerns, medical situations, and emergencies.
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and welcoming program spaces.
  • Participate in required staff meetings and training.
  • Support Vacation Camp and Snow Camp opportunities when Afterschool is not in session.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the success of the program.
Requirements

 

What We're Looking For

You don't need years of childcare experience to make a great Afterschool team member.

We're looking for people who are:

  • At least 16 years old.
  • Dependable and responsible.
  • Positive and enthusiastic.
  • Comfortable interacting with children.
  • Able to use good judgment and work as part of a team.
  • Willing to learn and participate in required training.

Previous experience working with children is preferred, but not required.

CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications are required within 30 days of hire. The YMCA provides the required training.


Work Environment & Physical Expectations

This is an active position working with children in both indoor and outdoor settings. Staff should be able to:

  • Lead and actively participate in games, recreation, and enrichment activities.
  • Move, bend, kneel, reach, and remain active throughout the shift.
  • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds as needed.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Maintain awareness of their surroundings and respond quickly and appropriately to children's needs.
