Steel Sales/Estimating/PM Intern

Reports To: Steel Project Manager

Position Summary

The Steel Sales & Estimating Intern will assist in developing cost estimates and supporting the procurement of new projects for PDM. This role will also provide internal and external project management support as needed. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn about the steel fabrication and construction industry.

Responsibilities & Areas of Accountability

  • Support the Steel Sales team with estimating and project management tasks.
  • Participate in bid and peer reviews.
  • Assist with maintaining and tracking the bid calendar.
  • Contribute to schedule development and scope definition.
  • Support steel estimating processes and resource coordination.
  • Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing and scope clarification.
  • Perform steel estimating and quantity take-offs.
  • Prepare proposal documents and supporting materials.
  • Assist with project management and manage small-scale projects as assigned.
  • Support change order pricing and estimate updates.
  • Participate in project hand-off meetings.
  • Support RFI/Submittals 
  • Gain understanding of how estimated structures are erected


Requirements

Qualifications

Education: Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. 

(Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.)

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Basic understanding of blueprints and construction specifications.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience or interest in estimating software; Bluebeam experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
