Mid Atlantic Contracting is a Maryland based commercial contractor specializing in renovations, occupied facilities, government projects, educational institutions, and specialty construction work.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to lead our preconstruction efforts and play a key role in how we pursue and win work. This position is responsible for developing budgets and estimates, evaluating opportunities, building subcontractor relationships, and supporting project pursuits from concept through award.
This is not a role within a large corporate estimating department with established teams and layers of management. You will be the primary estimating resource for our General Contracting Division and will work closely with operations, business development, and executive leadership to strengthen processes, improve consistency, and help drive results. If you are looking for a role where your experience, ideas, and judgment are valued, and where you can help shape how estimating and preconstruction are performed rather than simply following an existing system, we would like to talk with you.
What You Will Do
Estimating & Preconstruction
• Develop conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and bid proposals for commercial construction projects.
• Review plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs and pricing analyses.
• Develop bid packages, scopes of work, assumptions, clarifications, and exclusions.
• Evaluate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and general conditions costs.
• Identify project risks, scope gaps, constructability concerns, and value engineering opportunities.
• Support project turnover from estimating to operations following project award.
• Maintain historical cost information and market pricing data.
Business Development & Project Pursuits
• Work closely with business development and operational leaders to evaluate project opportunities.
• Support pursuit strategies through budgeting, pricing guidance, and subcontractor engagement.
• Participate in client meetings and preconstruction discussions when needed.
• Provide insight on project risks, opportunities, and overall viability.
Subcontractor & Vendor Relationships
• Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers throughout Maryland and the surrounding region.
• Solicit competitive pricing and ensure adequate bid coverage.
• Review and level subcontractor proposals.
• Negotiate scope and pricing when appropriate.
• Assist in expanding MAC's network of qualified trade partners.
Process Improvement
• Help establish estimating standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Build consistency within the preconstruction process.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of cost databases and estimating tools.
• Recommend practical improvements that strengthen accuracy, communication, and overall performance.
Cross-Divisional Support
• Serve as the primary estimating resource for the General Contracting Division.
• When workload and business needs allow, provide estimating support for other company divisions, including MAC Metal Fab.
• Collaborate with divisional leaders to support pricing, takeoffs, budgeting, and proposal development as needed.
What We Are Looking For
Required
• 7+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.
• Experience working for a General Contractor.
• Ability to independently prepare complete estimates from conceptual budgeting through final bid submission.
• Strong understanding of construction means, methods, sequencing, and pricing.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple opportunities and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred
• 10+ years of estimating and preconstruction experience.
• Experience with government, municipal, educational, and institutional projects.
• Experience with occupied renovations and phased construction.
• Design-build and negotiated project experience.
• Experience developing conceptual budgets and early-stage pricing.
• Experience improving estimating processes and procedures.
• Experience with structural steel, miscellaneous metals, fabrication, or specialty contracting is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. Equivalent construction and estimating experience will be considered in place of a degree.
Technology Skills
• Microsoft 365.
• Bluebeam Revu and BuildingConnected.
• Vista/Viewpoint or similar construction ERP experience is preferred.
