The Night Dispatcher / Fleet Operations Specialist is responsible for coordinating and supporting nightly fuel delivery operations to ensure safe, accurate, and timely service to customers. This position serves as the primary point of contact for drivers during the overnight shift, monitoring deliveries, responding to and troubleshooting operational issues, communicating schedule changes, and helping ensure compliance with company and DOT safety requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor overnight fuel deliveries, driver assignments, routes, and schedules
- Communicate regularly with drivers and provide support by responding to calls involving delivery instructions, customer needs, route changes, delays, and other operational and technological issues or emergencies
- Monitor driver progress and proactively address issues that could affect timely or safe deliveries
- Adjust routes and assignments as field conditions change to maintain efficient operations
- Maintain accurate records, driver communications, delivery information for the daily sales report, and shift notes
- Communicate important operational information and unresolved issues to incoming dispatchers and management
- Balance rack tickets
- Pull inventory reading and conduct bulk plant inspection
- Pull reports to monitor driver hours to ensure efficiency of stops, gallons, and cost/mile
- Follow safety procedures and reinforce safe operating practices with drivers
- Recognize situations that require management involvement and escalate issues promptly
- Coordinate with management and other departments as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A or Class B, or the ability to obtain
- Current Hazmat and Tanker endorsements or the ability to obtain
- Good driving record with positive points
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check, Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) pre-employment requirements as required
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple drivers, delivery locations, and priorities simultaneously
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn dispatch, routing, and communication systems
- Dependable attendance and ability to work the assigned night schedule that may include weekends and/or holidays as required
Previous experience dispatching, routing, or transportation emergency coordination preferred.
Commercial driving experience, preferably involving fuel, petroleum products, or other hazardous materials preferred.
