We’re looking for an experienced Senior Transportation Project Manager to help lead and grow our Connecticut transportation practice. This is an opportunity to take ownership of exciting transportation projects, build strong client relationships, mentor talented professionals, and play a key role in expanding BETA’s presence throughout Connecticut and New England.
You’ll lead projects from planning and design through permitting, bidding, and construction while managing scope, budgets, schedules, quality, and client expectations. You’ll work closely with BETA’s multidisciplinary teams to bring together engineering, environmental, landscape architecture, and GIS expertise to deliver creative, comprehensive solutions. Just as importantly, you’ll help grow the business by identifying opportunities, cultivating new and existing client relationships, leading pursuits, and connecting clients with BETA’s broader capabilities. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the direction of the transportation practice in Connecticut while working alongside a collaborative team of professionals who are invested in its success.
Responsibilities:
- Lead complex municipal transportation projects from initial planning and concept development through design, permitting, bidding, and construction
- Provide senior level leadership and accountability for project scope, budgets, schedules, staffing, quality, risk, and client expectations
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with municipal clients, CTDOT, regional agencies, and other project stakeholders, serving as a strategic advisor on transportation needs and priorities
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities with existing and prospective municipal clients throughout Connecticut
- Lead business development efforts including client outreach, opportunity identification, pursuit strategy, proposals, statements of qualifications, interviews, presentations, and contract negotiations
- Expand client relationships by understanding long term transportation needs and connecting clients with BETA’s broader engineering, environmental, landscape architecture, and GIS capabilities
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating engineers, designers, environmental professionals, landscape architects, GIS specialists, and other technical staff
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level staff, providing technical guidance, coaching, leadership opportunities, and support for professional growth
- Provide senior level technical guidance for municipal transportation projects including roadway improvements, Complete Streets, sidewalks, ADA accessibility, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, intersections, traffic, drainage, stormwater, and pavement rehabilitation
- Oversee the preparation and review of plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and other technical deliverables to ensure quality, constructability, and compliance with applicable standards
- Coordinate with CTDOT and other state and local agencies, regional planning organizations, utilities, and community stakeholders to advance projects and secure necessary approvals
- Support municipalities with grant funded transportation projects, helping clients navigate funding requirements and move projects successfully from planning through implementation
- Provide leadership during construction administration, including contractor coordination, site visits, submittal and RFI review, change management, and resolution of field and constructability issues
- Maintain BETA’s standards for technical excellence and lead project level QA/QC efforts
- Represent BETA at municipal meetings, public hearings, client presentations, industry events, and agency coordination meetings
- Collaborate with BETA’s New England offices to leverage regional expertise and multidisciplinary resources to pursue and deliver successful projects
- Contribute to the growth and strategic direction of BETA’s Connecticut transportation practice by bringing new ideas, relationships, and opportunities to the team
Preferred location is BETA’s Hartford, CT office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Required Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- 15+ years of related engineering experience in highway design, stormwater management, ADA compliance, and roadway construction practices
- Project Management experience
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil3D, Microstation OpenRoads Designer, and ArcGIS/Pro
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with AASHTO, RIDOT/MassDOT/ConnDOT design standards, MUTCD
- Experience with CT DEEP and other applicable state and local permitting regulations
- Strong technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
- Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Experience with AutoCAD Storm and Sanitary & HydroCAD
- OSHA Certifications (OSHA 10-Construction, OSHA 40-HAZWOPER, OSHA Confined Space Entry, etc…)
