The Underwriting Intern position is a temporary, 12-week role designed to introduce students or recent graduates to the property and casualty insurance industry. In this program, the intern will be tasked with leading and completing a Lean Six Sigma project, with the opportunity to earn their Yellow Belt certification. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend Lean Six Sigma training and lead a project from inception to completion. 
• Interact and collaborate with internal departments to gain industry knowledge and achieve project goals. 
• Prepare and present project updates to senior management. 
• Become familiar with property and casualty insurance industry terminology.
• Complete assigned trainings on property and casualty insurance industry knowledge.  
• Assist team members with day-to-day tasks and assignments. 
• Shadow team members and assigned executive mentor to gain insider knowledge of property and casualty insurance.
• Network with others through participation in social company events. 
• Attend onboarding and training as assigned. 

PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS

Underwriting Knowledge Base (UKB) Enhancement: As a summer intern in the Underwriting Department, you'll work on an initiative focused on enhancing the underwriting knowledge, resources, and information sharing practices. Your project will focus on supporting the continued development of the Underwriting Knowledge Base (UKB), a centralized location that serves as a key resource for the underwriting department. You will work with your mentor and business stakeholders to evaluate current processes related to content organization, maintenance, governance, and user engagement. The project may include researching best practices, identifying opportunities to improve knowledge management capabilities, and recommending solutions that support a sustainable, scalable, and user-friendly resource model. This opportunity will provide valuable exposure to knowledge management, employee development, process optimization, team collaboration, and underwriting operations.

FCRA Compliance Audit Framework Automation: As a summer intern in the Underwriting Department, you'll work on developing corporate controls designed to ensure compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) in the use of consumer reports across all underwriting product lines. Your project will focus on assessing the controls and processes that support FCRA compliance within Underwriting. You will work with your mentor and business stakeholders to document current workflows, evaluate control effectiveness, and identify opportunities for automation. The project will include researching and recommending approaches for an automated audit process that strengthens compliance monitoring, reporting, and operational efficiency. This experience will provide valuable exposure to regulatory compliance, risk management, process improvement, and underwriting operations.
