Job Description:

JSL Technologies is seeking a Naval GWS In-Service Engineer to provide system-level engineering, test & evaluation (T&E), and fleet technical assistance for Navy Gun Weapon Systems (including MK 34 and MK 48). In this role, you will bridge the gap between land-based laboratory testing and active shipboard operations—ensuring system reliability, resolving hardware obsolescence, and executing design alterations across the weapon system's operational lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Test & Evaluation (T&E): Develop test plans and execute hardware/software validation at the Surface Warfare Engineering Facility (SWEF), land-based test sites, and onboard naval vessels. Evaluate combat system metrics and validate Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs).
  • Fleet Technical Assistance: Serve as a subject matter expert providing remote and shipboard troubleshooting, root-cause failure analysis, and on-site technical assistance to naval crews.
  • Engineering Change & Alterations: Review and draft Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Ordnance Alterations (OrdAlts), and Ship Alterations (ShipAlts) to improve design performance and resolve fleet issues.
  • Obsolescence & DMSMS Mitigation: Conduct market research and engineering assessments to mitigate Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS), identifying replacement components for legacy hardware.
  • Technical Documentation: Author and update Installation Control Drawings (ICDs), technical manuals, Preventive Maintenance System (PMS) documentation, and formal test reports.
  • Quality & Logistics Support: Inspect vendor deliverables, support hardware production quality reviews, and manage local equipment movement for test events.
  • Program Execution: Track project schedules, analyze program risks, assist with budget inputs, and participate in technical data calls and Navy program reviews.

Required Qualifications:

  • Work. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or at any time in the future.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Work Authorization: U.S. Citizenship required (no employer sponsorship).
  • Skills: Proficiency in technical writing, MS Office, hardware/software troubleshooting, and reading technical schematics/drawings.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel periodically for shipboard technical assistance and off-site testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Naval Systems Experience: Prior experience with Navy combat systems, specifically MK 34 or MK 48 Gun Weapon Systems, or ISEA lab environments.
  • Documentation & Process: Familiarity with DoD configuration management, ECP/ShipAlt workflows, and DMSMS tracking tools.
  • Methodologies: Exposure to Agile/Scrum frameworks in engineering or software environments.
