POSITION: Industrial Design Drafter
Primary Objective of Position:
The Industrial Design Drafter is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining production tooling, fixtures, manufacturing aids, plant and office layouts, and engineering documentation that support manufacturing operations.
Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Facilities, and Production, this position transforms engineering concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions while proactively recommending standardized designs and continuous improvements.
Major Areas of Accountability:
• Design and develop production tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, lifting devices, assembly aids, inspection fixtures, and other manufacturing support equipment.
• Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for tooling, manufacturing support equipment, plant layouts, office layouts, and custom manufacturing solutions.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Production, Maintenance, and Facilities to develop practical solutions that improve manufacturing operations.
• Maintain engineering drawings and related documentation throughout their lifecycle.
• Support manufacturing, maintenance, facility improvement, and equipment installation projects through technical drafting and layout development.
• Standardize tooling designs by developing reusable design libraries, configurable components, templates, and engineering best practices.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation, SAP material masters, material classifications, and related engineering records.
• Develop standardized and configurable CAD solutions to improve engineering efficiency and automate repetitive design activities whenever practical.
• Maintain company drafting standards, document control, and tooling numbering systems.
• Practice the principles of Electric Machinery Safety and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
• Associate Degree in Drafting, Mechanical Design Technology, CAD Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience creating mechanical drawings and 3D models in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing documentation.
• Experience designing tooling, fixtures, manufacturing equipment, or plant layouts preferred.
• Knowledge of machining, welding, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
• Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with SAP engineering master data and documentation.
• Experience with CAD automation, parametric modeling, design tables, or configurable designs.
• Experience with engineering document management systems.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.
• Occasionally positions self in manufacturing and office work areas.
• Routinely remains in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
• Regularly travels throughout manufacturing, warehouse, laboratory, and office areas to collect information, verify field conditions and support engineering projects.
Salary:
$60k to $70k
Will compensate with experience. Position is full-time.
