Architectural Designer - BIM Digital Delivery
Hybrid Remote Grand Rapids, MI
Description

GMB is currently seeking a full-time Architectural Designer to join our Team of Teams!

We are seeking a design professional who is excited about the intersection of architecture, BIM technology, and innovation. In this role, you will collaborate with GMB's project teams to support all aspects of project design and construction documentation while also helping advance the way we use Revit, BIM, automation, and other digital tools.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys both creating great project work and finding better, smarter ways to do it. You'll gain and apply Revit expertise, contribute to BIM standards and digital workflows, and work alongside GMB's BIM Development and Innovation teams to explore emerging technologies and solutions that improve project delivery.

Why Work with Us?

This is the part where most job descriptions jump into the responsibilities and requirements for the role being posted - and we'll get there shortly! But we like to start with the why instead of the what.

Our purpose is helping build strong communities through educational opportunity. We focus on projects within the educational ecosystem, from Pre-K through Higher Education and spaces in our community that support lifelong learning. Our team of educational planners, architects, and engineers get to work on a wide range of project types for a diverse set of clients, and we're proud of the impact that our work has on the lives and trajectories of students throughout the Midwest. Will you join us?

As an Architectural Designer with GMB you will:

  • Visit project sites to assist with measuring, data collection, sketching, and documenting existing conditions.
  • Prepare technical drawings from sketches, notes, details, and/or verbal instructions.
  • Produce construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, and other project documentation.
  • Develop and maintain Revit models throughout project phases while following GMB and client standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other project team members to support project goals, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or automate BIM processes and project production workflows.
  • Support the development of data-driven solutions that extend beyond traditional architectural and engineering services.
  • Have the opportunity to work in a primarily 'remote' work environment yet have the ability to work in one of our learning hubs as needed

What type of knowledge do I need to succeed in this role?

More than a specific degree and exact number of years of experience, we're most excited about what kind of knowledge you bring. For this role, we are seeking someone with advanced knowledge who uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.

Some components that may help indicate you are at this knowledge milestone include more tangible items like:

  • Minimum two-year associate's degree in architecture or engineering / drafting technology and related 8+ years' experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and its application to architectural project documentation.
  • Familiarity with BIM processes, standards, and digital project delivery.
  • Ability to understand and work within established BIM standards, templates, families, parameters, and workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines, both collaboratively and independently.
  • Curiosity about technology and a willingness to learn, experiment, and solve problems in new ways.

What might set you apart from other candidates?

  • Experience with additional tools such as AutoCAD, Forma, Dynamo, or other 3D modeling, rendering, or computational design tools.
  • Familiarity with scripting, programming, data management, parametric modeling, or other technology-related skills.
  • The ability to identify opportunities for process improvement or automation.
  • Experience providing technical support or training to others.
  • Connection or passion for the educational market

We might be a great match for each other if you are:

  • A self-starter with great time management skills who thrives in an environment with team-based decision making.
  • An individual who strives to learn and grow, is motivated by their team's success and works hard to ensure it.
  • Someone who enjoys trying new ideas and constantly improving.
