Position Summary: 

The Sisters Transforming and Rising (STaR) Center provides a safe, healing-centered environment where vulnerable youth and survivors of commercial sexual exploitation can access life skills, peer relationships, crisis support, and resources. The STaR Center Coordinator ensures that programming is gender-responsive, culturally relevant, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and developmentally appropriate (GCTSD). Reporting to the Engagement Services Manager, the STaR Center Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and expanding STaR Center services, facilitating youth engagement, and overseeing peer support programs. This role also plays a critical part in MISSSEY’s outreach and volunteer efforts.

The ideal candidate for this position is:

• Experienced in working with Black girls and other youth of color who have experienced homelessness, gender-based violence, trafficking, and abuse.
• Skilled in curriculum development, group facilitation, and youth development.
• Adept in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and harm reduction practices.
• A collaborative leader passionate about empowering youth and fostering healing.
• Experienced in building relationships with community partners and service providers.

STaR Center Program Coordination (65%)

• Facilitate a robust, five-day-a-week drop-in program for exploited and vulnerable youth, 12-24 years old.
• Develop and implement STaR Center curriculum in alignment with grant and contract objectives.
• Maintain a monthly calendar of events, including life skills workshops, peer support groups, and creative arts activities.
• Lead daily workshops and ensure engaging programming that meets the needs of youth participants.
• Coordinate monthly market events, including food orders and partner meetings.
• Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety planning for participants as needed.
• Oversee the incentive program that provides financial rewards for youth achievements.
• Ensure the STaR Center space remains safe, welcoming, and well-stocked with supplies and inventory.
• Plan and oversee food provision, ensuring access to healthy meals and snacks.
• Conduct up to four hours of community outreach per week to engage youth in programming.
• Maintain participant records, including sign-in sheets and data entry into the Apricot database.
• Support volunteer facilitators, interns, and workshop leaders in their work with youth.
• Participate in training, community engagement, and presentations to strengthen MISSSEY’s outreach efforts.

Intake & Youth Engagement (25%)

• Serve as the main point of contact for all new intakes at the STaR Center.
• Conduct intake assessments to understand youth needs, interests, and potential barriers.
• Guide new participants in accessing MISSSEY’s programming and services.
• Support the Engagement Services Manager in training Y.E.S. on STaR Center policies, procedures, and youth engagement strategies.

Other Responsibilities (10%)

• Develop a professional development plan with supervisor support.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and strategic planning efforts.
• Build and maintain partnerships with external service providers to strengthen youth support.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions with youth.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Engagement Services Manager.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience providing direct service to transitional-aged youth.
• Experience working with Black women and girls, LGBTQ+, and gender-diverse youth.
• Background in youth development, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention.
• Experience facilitating workshops and engaging youth in structured programming.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
• Ability to build healthy boundaries and model positive relationships for youth.
• Knowledge of vulnerable youth populations and commercial sexual exploitation.
• Skilled in developing and facilitating youth-focused workshops and activities.
• Ability to multitask, manage high participant numbers, and maintain organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and data entry systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Physical & Language Requirements

• Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds and move items weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance or appropriate equipment. 
• Ability to reach, bend, walk, and stand for at least 20 minutes at a time.
• Ability to use computer systems and data entry software for extended periods.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English (spoken and written).
• Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and ability to transport clients.

Work Environment

• In-person role with occasional outdoor activities and community engagement.
• Shared office space; main offices are located on the second floor without elevator access.
• Requires work in community settings, including county offices and law enforcement facilities.
• Some evening and weekend hours on a rotating schedule.
