Job Responsibilities:

The HAZWOPER Technician is primarily a field technician responsible for performing environmental, industrial, and emergency response work while also operating commercial vehicles and specialized equipment as business needs require. This dual-role position performs hands-on cleanup, waste handling, industrial services, and spill response activities and uses a Class A CDL to safely transport equipment, materials, waste, and company vehicles to and from customer and job sites. The position requires strenuous physical work in industrial, outdoor, dirty, and potentially hazardous environments.

HAZWOPER Technician / Class A CDL Driver Job Duties:

•  Perform hands-on environmental services, industrial cleaning, emergency response, spill cleanup, and biohazard cleanup activities.
•  Handle, stage, profile, process, load, and unload hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste in accordance with TAS procedures and applicable requirements.
•  Assist with the removal of soil, debris, liquids, waste, and other materials from spill sites, industrial locations, and customer facilities.
•  Operate, clean, inspect, and assist with the setup of environmental and industrial service equipment used during field operations.
•  Support industrial tank cleaning, confined-space work, equipment cleaning, and other field service activities as assigned.
•  Respond to emergency service calls and changing field conditions, including after-hours, weekend, holiday, and on-call assignments when required.
•  Safely operate Class A commercial motor vehicles and company equipment as needed to support field operations and transport crews, equipment, waste, hazardous materials, and non-hazardous materials.
•  Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; identify and report maintenance, safety, or equipment concerns before operation.
•  Follow DOT requirements, hours-of-service rules, routing instructions, load securement requirements, shipping documentation, and all TAS safety procedures.
•  Maintain accurate driver logs, manifests, trip records, waste documentation, job paperwork, and other required records.
•  Communicate with supervisors, dispatch, customers, and field team members regarding job requirements, routes, site conditions, delays, and service needs.
•  Maintain assigned vehicles, equipment, tools, PPE, supplies, and work areas in a clean, safe, and ready condition.
•  Participate in pre-job safety meetings, job hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and required training; comply with TAS safety requirements and the TAS TEN Lifesaving Rules.
•  Travel to TAS branches, customer locations, and job sites as business needs require.
•  Perform other technician, driver, environmental, and industrial service duties as assigned.
•  Confined Space certification/training preferred or must be completed as required for assigned work.
•  Must meet all applicable DOT driver qualification requirements and maintain an acceptable driving record.
•  Ability to read, write, communicate clearly, complete required documentation, and perform basic mathematics.

Physical & Work Requirements:

•  Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, talk, and hear.
•  Frequently lift or move items up to 60 pounds.
•  Frequently climb stairs and ladders and occasionally work at heights.
•  Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection.
•  Ability to work in confined spaces when required.
•  Ability to work outdoors and at industrial or customer job sites in varying weather and environmental conditions.
•  Ability to work extended hours, overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency-response assignments based on operational needs.
•  Travel may be required based on job location and business needs.

•  Relationship Management & Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, dispatch, coworkers, and customers.
•  Customer Focus: Ability to support customer needs while maintaining TAS safety and operational requirements.
•  Problem Solving & Execution: Ability to respond to changing job-site conditions and complete assigned work safely, efficiently, and accurately.

Education, Licenses & Certifications:

•  Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
•  Hazmat Endorsement required.
•  Tanker Endorsement required.
•  40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred; must obtain and maintain required HAZWOPER training as directed by TAS.
