Heartline Staffing is recruiting a Senior DeltaV Controls Engineer for an onsite Life Sciences automation opportunity in Raleigh, North Carolina. This senior-level position will lead the design, implementation and project management of large-scale capital automation projects supporting regulated Life Sciences manufacturing environments.

The role requires extensive hands-on Emerson DeltaV experience and a strong technical background designing and delivering cGMP-compliant automation solutions. The Senior DeltaV Controls Engineer will oversee complete project lifecycles while providing technical leadership across system architecture, batch controls, industrial networking, electrical design, system integration, validation and commissioning.

DELTAV SYSTEM DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION
• Design and implement Emerson DeltaV control systems for complex Life Sciences capital projects
• Lead system architecture development and control strategies
• Design batch sequencing, phase logic and recipe structures
• Develop DeltaV graphics using DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate
• Apply ISA-101 HMI design principles and high-performance graphic strategies
• Utilize class-based configuration and design to support scalability and standardization
• Design, plan and specify DeltaV system licensing based on project scope and user requirements

LIFE SCIENCES AUTOMATION
• Lead automation projects supporting regulated Life Sciences manufacturing
• Support biopharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing processes
• Apply cGMP, GAMP5 and 21 CFR Part 11 requirements
• Design and implement ISA-88 batch control systems
• Support historian integration and alarm management
• Develop acceptance protocols
• Manage Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing
• Support commissioning and validation activities

INDUSTRIAL NETWORKING & SYSTEM INTEGRATION
• Design and implement industrial networking solutions
• Work with Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus and Foundation Fieldbus
• Integrate third-party equipment using OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, Modbus and other industrial communication protocols
• Support communication between controllers, servers and HMIs
• Define computing infrastructure requirements including server architecture, virtualization, cybersecurity and redundancy planning

ELECTRICAL & INSTRUMENTATION DESIGN
• Develop electrical designs including power distribution, panel layouts and grounding strategies
• Specify and procure instrumentation and hardware components
• Design and specify electrical components including MCCs, VFDs, control panels and power distribution systems
• Integrate electrical and process control systems

PROJECT LEADERSHIP
• Manage large-scale Life Sciences capital automation projects
• Develop and manage project schedules, budgets and resources
• Oversee projects from requirements gathering through commissioning and validation
• Coordinate with clients, stakeholders and regulatory bodies
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership to cross-disciplinary teams
• Troubleshoot complex automation challenges
• Drive continuous improvements in system performance

TRAVEL & WORKING CONDITIONS
• Up to 25% travel for onsite support, commissioning and client engagement
• Office and production facility environments
• Frequent use of computers, engineering tools and industrial control systems
• Occasional lifting and climbing during commissioning activities
• Work may include weekends, holidays, night shifts and extended hours to meet deadlines and client requirements

Requirements

• Professional degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field REQUIRED
• 8-15 years of automation and control system engineering experience with a strong focus on Life Sciences projects REQUIRED
• 8-15 years of hands-on Emerson DeltaV experience focused on system design and project execution REQUIRED
• Proficiency with DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate, including high-performance HMI and operator interface design REQUIRED
• Expertise in ISA-101 HMI design principles and high-performance graphic design strategies REQUIRED
• Strong class-based configuration and design experience REQUIRED
• Expertise in ISA-88 batch processing, historian solutions and advanced control strategies REQUIRED
• Experience managing large-scale capital projects in the Life Sciences industry REQUIRED
• Strong knowledge of HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA and IO-Link REQUIRED
• Deep understanding of industrial networking between controllers, servers and HMIs REQUIRED
• Strong knowledge of cGMP, GAMP5 and regulatory compliance for biopharmaceutical manufacturing REQUIRED
• Experience integrating electrical and process control systems REQUIRED
• Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills REQUIRED
• Experience specifying and designing MCCs, VFDs, control panels and power distribution systems REQUIRED
• Knowledge of server infrastructure and virtualization technologies for DeltaV deployment REQUIRED
• Extensive experience designing and implementing batch control systems in regulated Life Sciences environments REQUIRED
• Experience with OEM system integration using OPC UA, Ethernet/IP and other industrial communication protocols REQUIRED
• Ability to plan, specify and manage DeltaV system licensing REQUIRED
• Ability to travel up to 25% REQUIRED

PREFERRED
• Knowledge of Rockwell Automation, Inductive Automation Ignition, Siemens PCS7 or other DCS/SCADA systems
