Heartline Staffing is recruiting a Fabrication Estimator/Design Engineer for an onsite opportunity in Carol Stream, Illinois. This position combines fabrication estimating, 3D SolidWorks design, shop drawings, bill of material development, job routing and production support.
The Engineer will review RFQ opportunities, estimate material and labor costs, develop proposals and create cost-effective, fabrication-ready designs. The position works closely with sales, procurement and the production shop to ensure scope, materials and designs are accurate and manufacturable while managing multiple quotes and projects simultaneously.

ESTIMATING & RFQ REVIEW
• Review and understand scope from RFQ opportunities provided by the sales team
• Estimate material and labor costs for fabricated components
• Gather and analyze financial data to estimate and allocate project or product costs
• Develop detailed proposals for sales engineers
• Manage multiple quotes and projects simultaneously
DESIGN & FABRICATION
• Create cost-effective, high-quality designs for fabricated components
• Develop concept drawings and detailed shop drawings
• Create bills of material and job routings
• Use 3D SolidWorks for design and drawing activities
• Work directly with the shop to support design for manufacturability
PROCUREMENT & PRODUCTION SUPPORT
• Obtain quotations for parts and services
• Issue purchase orders for parts and services
• Support production teams with material readiness and schedule tracking
• Stage materials and confirm BOM and job materials are accurate on larger job orders
• Coordinate with the shop to support efficient production execution
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL PROJECT SUPPORT
• Lead cross-functional RFQ package reviews on larger projects
• Coordinate with sales, shop and procurement teams during project kickoffs
• Ensure stakeholders understand the scope of work
• Communicate design concepts to the sales team and customers
• Serve as a liaison between the shop and sales group
• 2-3 years minimum of relevant experience REQUIRED
• Basic understanding of job-costing principles REQUIRED
• Proficiency in 3D SolidWorks REQUIRED
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills REQUIRED
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail REQUIRED
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to create forecasts based on financial data REQUIRED
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software REQUIRED
• Ability to work onsite in Carol Stream, IL REQUIRED
• Local candidate REQUIRED
• Stable work history REQUIRED
• Compensation expectations within $61,000-$70,000 REQUIRED
EDUCATION
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering OR relevant experience in lieu of degree
PREFERRED
• General understanding of stainless-steel welding/manufacturing processes
• Experience within the stainless-steel fabrication and sanitary process-piping industry
