The Plant Operator is responsible for the operation of the primary and secondary plant equipment. The main role of the Plant Operator is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant and maintain clear communication with all plant support personnel throughout the day.
Essential Functions:
· Arrive at work on time for the scheduled shift ready to perform the required tasks. Actively participate in pre-shift meeting.
· Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment. Inspect all safety components, all fluid levels, tires and perform basic maintenance tasks as required.
· Report to designated work area without delay at the start of the shift.
· Fill out a daily production and workplace exam, note any safety or maintenance issues that require repairs.
· Operate plant via the HMI, observe equipment performance to ensure safe and efficient operation.
· Maintain material flow and quality. Adjust as necessary to always guarantee maximum production and proper stock levels.
· Follow established inspection and preventative maintenance routines for all plant equipment, crushers, conveyors, screens and stackers.
· Housekeeping, ensure control room is clean and organized. Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to company policies and procedures.
· Clear and timely communication with plant support personnel to ensure safe efficient operations.
· Adhere to all YBP safety procedures and regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
· Must be flexible, creative thinking and possess excellent problem-solving capabilities.
· Assist with other quarry operations as needed, such as troubleshooting, cleaning, plant equipment repairs, etc.
· Interact with vendors, customers, co-workers, and management in a professional and respectful manner.
Job Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
· Proven work experience operating an aggregate plant.
· Prior experience working in a mining environment preferred.
· Experience with electronic equipment and software related to the operation of the plant equipment and/or willingness to learn
plant systems.
· Experience with aggregate crushers, screens, conveyors and material size classifications.
· Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
· Self-motivated and able to work without constant supervision.
· Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
· Ability to operate various pieces of equipment.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule during peak times. Overtime and weekends as needed.
· Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations quickly and efficiently to solve problems and maintain production efficiency. I.e. breakdowns, demand changes, quality issues, weather conditions, etc.)
Education:
· Minimum – High School Diploma or equivalent.
Work Environment: This position works primarily in an active surface mining and aggregate production environment. Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, changing weather conditions, and moving equipment is common. Strict adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and MSHA regulations is required at all times.
Physical Demands:
- Physical demands include but are not limited to walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.
- Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to perform inspections and light maintenance activities as required.
