  Are you ready to launch a career, not just find a job? Horizon Commercial Pools is now enrolling for our Registered Apprenticeship Program, training the next generation of Pool Service Technicians in Arden Hills, MN!


No pool experience? No problem. This program is built to take someone with the right attitude and work ethic and turn them into a skilled, certified Pool Service Technician — earning a paycheck and gaining a nationally recognized credential the entire time.

As an Apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced Journey-level Technicians learning repairs, installations, renovations, and maintenance on real customer sites. Every day is hands-on training toward a skilled trade you can build a career on.

  • Paid structured wage progression starting at $24/hour, increasing as you complete each stage of the program. (1st year $24.00, 2nd year $24.50 end wage $25.00. 
  • 288 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI) and 50 hours of Safety training both delivered in-house and in partnership with industry recognized vendors.
  • Nationally  recognized Journeyworker credential issued by the U.S. Department  of Labor upon successful completion.
  • Dedicated mentor and structured skill checkpoints throughout the program.
  • $175 annual footwear allowance after 60 days.
  • Access to a company vehicle during the day to travel to job sites.

  • Flexible schedule with an 8-hour shift, Monday–Friday, starting at 7:30 a.m.

What You'll Learn

Over the course of the apprenticeship, you'll build competency in:

  • Pool equipment repair, troubleshooting, and installation
  • Pool renovations and construction basics
  • Water chemistry and maintenance procedures
  • Safe operating procedures and proper tool use
  • Customer service and professional communication on-site

Program Details

  • 24 Months
  • Credential earned:  US Department of Labor Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship, Pool Service Technician
  • Post-apprenticeship: Upon successful completion, apprentices convert to full Journey-level Pool Service Technician status at the corresponding full wage rate.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (or currently pursuing).
  • No prior pool, plumbing, or HVAC experience required — this program is designed to build those skills from the ground up.
  • Prior experience in plumbing, repair, HVAC, or pool/spa industries is a plus, but not required.
  • Must   meet minimum age requirement of 18 as required by the apprenticeship program.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to frequently push or pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires the physical ability to use hands, arms, feet, and legs for repetitive movements, bending, squatting, and reaching.
  • Requires the physical ability to function in exposure to marked changes in Midwest temperature, including humidity, rain, snow, and cold, and exposure to chemicals.
  • Requires driving a vehicle with an acceptable driving record.
