Kids Ministry Assistant Director

About the role:

The Assistant Kids Director (K–5) partners with the Kids Director to lead and develop a vibrant, Christ-centered ministry for elementary-age children (Kindergarten–5th Grade) at the Largo Campus and in support of all campuses. This role focuses on weekly service leadership, Bible teaching, curriculum coordination, leader support, and operational excellence—ensuring safe, engaging, and spiritually impactful environments where kids grow in their faith and families feel supported. 


Essential Functions:

Ministry Leadership & Teaching

  • Lead Wednesday night Kids Ministry services for K–5, overseeing programming, flow, and volunteer teams.
  • Oversee service flow, content, and weekly Bible teaching for the Sunday 10:30 AM Kids service, delivering age-appropriate, biblically sound messages aligned with Indian Rocks Church theology.
  • Organize and prepare K–5 curriculum aligned with ministry goals.

Volunteer Leadership & Safety

  • Recruit, onboard, train, and support K–5 volunteer leaders to serve with excellence.
  • Enforce Kids Ministry security and safety procedures, including child check-in compliance and Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse (AHCA) requirements.

Operations & Systems

  • Oversee and manage Planning Center for K–5 ministries (Sunday 9:00 AM / 10:30 AM and Wednesday nights), maintaining accurate schedules, service plans, and team communications.
  • Coordinate hardware and tech needs directly per church workflows.

Events & Special Programming

  • Assist in planning and executing major Kids Ministry events, including camps, seasonal programming, and large-group gatherings.
Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Education: College or Seminary degree actively pursued or completed (desired for ministry work).
  • Experience: Verifiable ministry experience working with youth (K–5 preferred), managing large groups, and leading volunteer teams.

Availability & Travel

  • Mandatory Availability: Sunday and Wednesday Night presence is an essential core requirement; recurring Sunday or Wednesday night time off cannot be accommodated.
  • Multi-site Travel: Must have the ability to travel between sites upon request.

Skills & Competencies

  • Leadership & Administration: Proven ability to motivate, organize, delegate, and manage project timelines and volunteer teams.
  • Technical Proficiency: Competence in office software, Planning Center (or equivalent church management systems), and digital communication tools.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to navigate elementary teaching and handle sensitive pastoral care situations discreetly.
  • Personal Qualities: Self-motivated, adaptable, and physical ability to navigate youth activities (standing, walking, maneuvering obstacles, lifting up to 25 lbs).
  • General Duties: Perform other duties as assigned and approved by supervising personnel (Lead Pastor, Church Administrator, or Personnel Committee).

  • Must give testimony and evidence of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and sense the call of God to a serving ministry.
  • Demonstrate a consistent Christian lifestyle as referenced by the; the Mission, Statement of Faith, and Leadership Guidelines of Indian Rocks.
  • Must be an active member of Indian Rocks as defined by regular attendance in worship services, regular attendance/involvement in an Indian Rocks Connection Group or Small Group, commitment to systematic stewardship, and faithful in tithing.
