Position Summary
The Director of Transportation is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and management of transportation operations within an organization.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring that all employees are trained on company policies and procedures regarding safety, security, and customer service
- Coordinating with other departments such as security or human resources to ensure that any transportation needs are met
- Managing the fleet of vehicles used by the company to ensure that they are safe and well-maintained
- Managing vehicle maintenance schedules, including ordering parts and making repairs when necessary
- Maintaining relationships with vendors in order to obtain special pricing for fuel or other materials
- Establishing and enforcing rules and regulations to ensure the safety of passengers on buses and trains
- Coordinating with other departments to develop schedules for employees who use company vehicles for work purposes
- Ensuring that vehicle operators are properly trained and certified in accordance with state laws
- Communicating with clients about any schedule changes or service updates
- Management retains the discretion to add or change duties at any time.
Education, Experience and Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, business management, engineering, or related field.
- At least 2 year's experience as a transportation manager in a similar industry.
- Solid knowledge of the transportation industry and logistics.
- Experience working with union contracts and transportation-related government regulations.
- Critical thinking skills and knowledge of analytics.
- Experience working with transport management systems and warehouse management software
- Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Good conflict resolution skills.
- Advanced computer skills, specifically Excel.
- Must be able to communicate financial information into sound business language so people of all levels can understand.
- Knowledge of federal regulations on taxes and reporting.
- A deep understanding of finance.
