The Opportunity
At Metrocrest Resale, we are passionate about our team members, customers, and those we serve. The Resale Driver/Porter is often the "face of Metrocrest Services," interacting with donors and customers in homes, in the store, and while driving the Metrocrest Resale delivery truck. The Driver/Porter is responsible for providing excellent customer service in all contact with customers, donors, and volunteers. The Resale Driver/Porter will operate the assigned truck as required in a safe and responsible manner, assist with loading, unloading, and moving furniture, and will oversee volunteers as needed. This position reports directly to the Back of House Supervisor and indirectly to the Store Manager.
Schedule Commitment
- The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday from 8:45 AM-5:15 PM with occasional changes depending on store operations.
- Consistent, reliable attendance is vital for ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining a high standard of customer service, supporting teamwork, and upholding the reputation of Metrocrest Resale and Metrocrest Services.
- Because the store depends on having enough trained staff to handle deliveries, transport, and facility upkeep during every open hour, the Driver/Porter must be present, on time, and ready to work for all scheduled shifts, and must be able to reliably and successfully perform each essential function of this role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Required Key Traits
Success as a Resale Driver/Porter depends on consistently demonstrating the following traits while working in the store, completing pickups and deliveries, and interacting with customers, donors, volunteers, and coworkers.
- DEPENDABILITY/ATTENDANCE: Reports to work on time, prepared, and ready to complete all scheduled pickups, deliveries, and assigned duties.
- CUSTOMER FOCUS: Represents Metrocrest Services professionally during pickups, deliveries, and on the sales floor; treats donors and shoppers with courtesy and respect; handles their donated goods and purchased goods with care.
- COMMUNICATION: Clearly and courteously communicates pickup and delivery information, donation guidelines, store policies, and any changes or concerns to customers, donors, volunteers, and coworkers.
- TENACITY: Stays with a position or plan of action until the desired objective is obtained or is no longer reasonably attainable.
- WORK STANDARDS/QUALITY ORIENTATION: Takes ownership of completing work correctly, including handling and wrapping sold items with care, safely loading, and unloading merchandise, and protecting donations and purchases from damage.
- ADAPTABILITY: Adjusts quickly and positively to a fast-changing retail floor, including shifting priorities and day-to-day changes in donations, inventory, and customer volume
- ENERGY/STAMINA: Sustains an active pace and stays effective while standing, moving, and lifting throughout a full shift in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- INITIATIVE: Takes action and pitches in without being asked, staying productive and helpful with minimal supervision
- STRESS TOLERANCE: Stays calm, courteous, and focused when completing physically demanding work, managing schedule changes, or handling a difficult customer or donor situation.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday from 8:45 AM-5:15 PM with occasional changes depending on store operations.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and move objects weighing 50 or more pounds for 7+ hours
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- At least 1 year of experience operating a non-CDL box truck
Preferred Qualifications
- Customer service

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Truck Driving
- At all times while driving the Metrocrest Resale truck, maintain the highest standards in safety and obey all traffic laws
- At all times while driving the Metrocrest Resale truck, maintain professionalism and courtesy
- Immediately report all accidents and/or damage to the truck to the Back of House Supervisor
Pickups and Deliveries
- Upon arrival of pickups and/or deliveries, greet all donors and customers in a manner representative of Metrocrest’s Core Values; maintain such behavior throughout the entire customer/donor transaction
- Load and unload delivery truck
- Provide receipts to donors
- Accurately complete daily mileage logs
- Turn in the completed mileage log and donor receipts at the end of each workday.
- Work with Back of House Supervisor to create, review, and finalize scheduled pickups, deliveries, and any associated needs or changes
- Maintain daily pick-up/delivery schedule, and communicate any changes to the Back of House Supervisor and store office
- Communicate any special needs, requests, or concerns to the Back of House Supervisor
- Analyze and determine if items picked up are sellable, unless told otherwise by the Back of House Supervisor and Store Manager
- Communicate effectively and professionally in the instance in which a donation is denied
- Communicate to volunteers the expectations and guidelines of working with donations and donors, and provide volunteers direction on appropriate actions and interactions in donor homes
General
- In all interactions with co-workers, donors, volunteers, and customers, maintain behavior representative of Metrocrest’s Core Values
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Back of House Supervisor and/or Store Manager

Compensation
The starting hourly rate for this FLSA-non-exempt position $19.00

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- This position works indoors and outdoors, including in the resale store, stockroom, delivery truck, and donor or customer locations.
- Ability to work in non-climate-controlled areas and varying weather conditions, including excessive heat, cold, and rain.
- Ability to move, transport, position, and lift up to 50 pounds for 7+ hours.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, climb in and out of the delivery truck, and remain seated while driving for extended periods.
