SMG is seeking a local Safety Advisor - Owner's Rep with Construction experience in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The key function is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible regarding change and travel. This person will travel to different project sites and provide safety coverage to construction and maintenance work.
Additional Information
- SMG full-time, benefited Associates are eligible for Premium Pay after working 40 billable hours for the week. Premium pay is at a 1.35 multiplier.
- Annual pay/merit review/increase.
- Per Diem is available for non-local candidates only. Per diem is $175/day for this project.
Overview of Job Responsibilities
- Provide owner-representative safety oversight during the final construction and facility readiness phases of a large-scale healthcare construction project.
- Monitor construction activities and identify, communicate, and help resolve safety concerns throughout all phases of work.
- Conduct contractor safety evaluations and provide ongoing oversight to ensure compliance with project safety requirements and industry standards.
- Manage and oversee project safety programs, ensuring alignment with operational goals, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Participate in field walks, project meetings, safety committees, and contractor coordination meetings.
- Serve as a resource and coach on contractor safety management processes and expectations.
- Partner with construction management and project stakeholders to maintain a strong safety culture and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide independent onsite safety oversight and support across multiple project activities and disciplines.
- 5+ years of construction safety experience, preferably on large commercial, healthcare, industrial, or mission-critical projects.
- Strong contractor management and contractor safety program experience.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections, and safety assessments.
- Ability to lead safety discussions, influence stakeholders, and coach field personnel.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
- Experience participating in safety committees, project meetings, and incident investigations.
- Professional certifications such as CHST, ASP, CSP, OHST, or similar preferred.
- First-aid/CPR certification from the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association
