We are currently looking to add a talented Underwriting department in the CREA offices in Indianapolis, IN. 


Position Summary:


CREA is seeking a Financial Analyst to provide analytical and operational support across its Underwriting team. This flexible role supports transaction underwriting, financial analysis, due diligence, reporting, data management, and special projects related to Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) investments. It is an excellent opportunity to build a foundation in affordable housing, real estate finance, and underwriting.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide support across the Underwriting team based on transaction volume, priorities, and resource needs.
  • Organize, review, and analyze underwriting and due diligence materials, including pro formas, market studies, appraisals, and engineering reports.
  • Collect, validate, maintain, and organize transaction data, supporting documentation, and underwriting files.
  • Perform basic financial analysis and quality-control reviews using Microsoft Excel and company systems.
  • Review and summarize income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and real estate owned schedules.
  • Assist with underwriting memoranda, investment summaries, committee materials, and presentation packages.
  • Research developers, guarantors, markets, financing sources, and other transaction participants.
  • Support assignment and milestone tracking, information requests, process improvements, and other special projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and a basic understanding of financial statements and business fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively.
  • Curiosity, initiative, a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn affordable housing finance and LIHTC underwriting.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license; up to 10% travel may be required based on business needs.


Preferred: 

  • Up to 3 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Underwriting, Finance, Accounting, Banking, Commercial real estate, Mortgage lending, Consulting, and other analytical fields
  • Exposure to the following areas is preferred but not required: Multifamily housing, Affordable housing, Lending, or Financial Analysis.
  • Advanced financial modeling experience is not required.
