Description

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Performs activities associated with the distribution of supplies and equipment for patient care and hospital department use. Performs cycle counting in Material Services storeroom to assure inventory levels are accurate.


Part-time, benefited position working 40 hours per two week pay period. Days of work are Monday - Friday with variable weekends or holidays  


JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs activities associated with receiving equipment and supplies delivered by common carrier. Activities include moving freight from loading dock to receiving, unpacking, counting and rotation of stock.  
  • Inspects incoming deliveries for damage and refuses delivery if appropriate. Documents damage to container if accepted to assist with resolution at a later date if needed.
  • Notifies Sanford buyers of discrepancies or damaged goods. 
  • Informs buyer of needed supplies and inventory discrepancies.
  • Fills requisitions and delivers supplies to requesting departments.  
  • Replenishes and rotates supplies on par carts in nursing units and other departments at established par levels as assigned.
  • Scans barcodes for billing of chargeable supplies.
  • Replaces products and labels on par carts as supply items change due to back orders or conversions.
  • Orders bins and other supplies needed for 2-bin systems throughout facility.
  • Cleans of par carts per schedule every 6 months & checks for outdates.
  • Checks all crash carts for outdated stock and replenishment of supplies on a monthly basis.
  • Takes phone calls from nursing units for immediate supply needs.
  • Performs cycle counting for GS140 (JRMC Material Services Storeroom). 
  • Checks items in storeroom with expiration dates for outdate.
  • Posts outgoing hospital mail.
  • Assumes responsibility for the cleanliness of the storerooms and loading dock.
  • Assists Sterile Processing personnel with processing, storage, and distribution of supplies and equipment for patient care and hospital department use on an as needed basis.
  • Files purchase orders and other purchasing documents.
  • Cross-trained to provide backup assistance for buyer daily and when on vacation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:

  1. Preparation & Training - High school level of education preferred.
  2. Work Experience - One to three months related work experience required. Experience in a health care facility working with supplies and computers preferred.
  3. Attendance - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.
  4. Analytical Ability - Requires the ability to review, evaluate, and verify inventory, supply orders, and distribution records for accuracy and completeness. Identifies discrepancies, tracks stock levels, and determines appropriate actions to maintain adequate supply. Uses critical thinking to solve problems related to supply shortages, misrouted items, or documentation errors. Applies organizational policies and procedures to ensure efficient workflow and compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  5. Independent Judgement - Works in accordance with JRMC Policies and Procedures. High degree of accountability in the areas of accuracy of records, distribution, stocking and allocation of time, as well as in the area of confidentiality of records and information.
  6. Contact with Others - Continuous contact with co-workers, other hospital staff and shippers. Occasional contact with patients, visitors and consumers. Performs activities with courtesy and tact.
  7. Supervising the Work of Others - Little or no responsibility for the work of others.
  8. Responsibility for Welfare of Others - Provides guidance and oversight to junior or support staff within the Materials Services department. Assigns daily tasks, monitors workflow, and ensures proper handling, storage, and distribution of supplies and equipment. Trains staff on inventory procedures, safety protocols, and organizational policies. Provides feedback and support to maintain efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with departmental standards while ensuring that materials are available to support patient care and facility operations.
  9. Mental/Visual Effort - Work requires sustained mental focus and attention to detail to accurately receive, inspect, sort, and distribute medical supplies and equipment. Technicians must quickly process and verify inventory information, track stock levels, and identify discrepancies. Visual effort is required for reading labels, product codes, order forms, and documentation, as well as inspecting supplies for quality and expiration dates. Tasks often involve multitasking, problem-solving, and prioritizing work to meet departmental needs while maintaining accuracy and compliance with organizational policies.
  10. Working Conditions - Well-lighted work area. Participates in and complies with JRMC Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of and observes Standard Precautions. Practices aseptic techniques whenever appropriate. OSHA JOB CLASSIFICATION: This position is defined as a Category II. Employee does not have exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  11. Physical & Sensory Effort - Work requires a combination of physical activity and desk-based tasks. Technicians spend significant time walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting boxes, supplies, and equipment—often weighing up to moderate levels. Requires visual attention for verifying inventory, reading labels, and inspecting supplies for quality and accuracy. Repetitive hand movements may be involved when handling, sorting, or stocking materials. Sustained concentration is needed to maintain accurate records, follow inventory procedures, and ensure proper distribution of supplies throughout the facility.
  12. Background - A comprehensive background check will be conducted as a condition of employment for this role. 
  13. Promotion - No formal line of promotion.
