Job Summary
The Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing automated systems and industrial equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role supports facility productivity by performing preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of material handling, automation, and building support equipment, including electric forklifts, conveyors, robotic systems, case sealers and erectors, dock equipment, scissor lifts, tuggers, floor scrubbers, and racking systems. The Automation Technician works closely with operations and engineering teams to minimize downtime, improve equipment performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives while adhering to all safety, quality, and maintenance standards. This position reports to a Service Manager or designee and does not have any direct reports.

- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Timely and accurate completion of all work orders and service records per the company time standard.
- Responsible for being the point of contact for customers.
- Perform and complete preventive maintenance (PM) and repairs.
- Facilitate work and repair requests.
- Provide shift coverage.
- Coordinate and facilitate warranty requests.
- Facilitate outside vendor work and all outside of scope work (PO process and billing).
- Order parts and manage inventory (5S Inventory Skills).
- Attend and complete monthly safety training requirements.
- Adhere to safety requirements by customer and company and complete all daily work orders in a safe manner.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas daily to support a safe and efficient work environment.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures including root cause analysis, and research of potential warranty coverage.
- Complete all repairs of equipment in a timely manner and follow the manufacturer’s repair guidelines.
- Conduct equipment audits in accordance with the preventive maintenance (PM) schedule established within the service platform.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Key Performance Measurements:
- A score card that reflects performance in areas such as, PM completion, technician efficiency, customer satisfaction, inventory variance, Work in Progress (WIP), safety, shop cleanliness, and 5S.
- Management observation regarding attitude, diligence, team contributions, and willingness and ability to learn new skills and information.
- Other key performance indicators as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must pass a background check and drug screen.
- 3+ years of Automation experience as an Automation Technician, Forklift Technician, and/or automation bots/technology savvy required.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, 480v, 240v, 24v, and 48v.
- Experience with 480V, VFD’s, relays, motor controls, electric motors, HMI’s, contactors, timers, proximity sensors/switches, electro-mechanical background, industrial batteries. Allen Bradley PLC preferred.
- Experience with gear boxes, chains, sprockets, MHE equipment/electric forklifts, hydraulic systems, dock and door, arc, mig, and tig welding experience preferred.
- Able to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, hydraulic diagrams, and pneumatic prints.
- Ability to organize his/her own work and work independently, with limited supervision.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with diverse needs, and across remote offices.
- Strong technology skills, mechanical troubleshooting skills, basic plumbing skills, and basic repair work skills.
- Experience with electric forklifts (Crown preferred).
- Must understand how to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical components involving wiring diagrams and schematics, general abilities in laptop software to identify issues with automation equipment going offline.
- Must provide own hand tools and willing to purchase what is needed to be successful in the role. Specialty tools will be provided.
- Ability to be self-motivated, possess organizational skills, and communicate well.
- Capable of building relationships, working as a team, and can work well under tight deadlines.
- Willingness to be on call.
- Travel up to 5% of the time, some overnight travel may be required.
