DESCRIPTION

Northwest Beef Express offers summer internships in transportation and dispatch operations. The purpose of the Internship is to teach students the key elements to the successful operation of an agricultural trucking fleet — how loads get planned, how drivers get supported, and how customers get served on time. Ultimately, this will help Northwest Beef Express determine if you are a strong candidate for a Fleet Manager or operations leadership role post-graduation.

JOB DUTIES

• Two weeks working in the following departments: Dispatch, Safety & Compliance, Shop & Maintenance, and Management
• You will have specific learning objectives you will need to learn the answers to in each department.
• You will keep a journal every day of your activities and things you learned.
• You will be preparing a SWOT analysis for each department for your final Internship presentation.
• You will be working on one to three projects. Those projects will include scope, benefit, drawbacks, financial analysis and your final recommendation.
• You will learn to plan routes, adjust for plant changes and equipment breakdowns, and communicate schedules to a group of 35 drivers.
• You will ride along with drivers and conduct safety observations alongside the Safety Coordinator.
• You will travel locally to potato plants and customer locations to observe product levels and conditions firsthand.
• You will visit the Nyssa NBX site. 
• You will visit industry partners.
• You will be exposed to all aspects of the business in one way or another.
• At the end of your Internship, you will deliver a presentation of your summer experience and projects to the Executive Leadership team, Managers and staff at multiple locations.

REQUIREMENTS

• Strong desire to work in Transportation, Logistics and/or Agriculture Industry post-graduation.
• Strong work ethic and a positive can-do attitude.
• Ability to use Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Gmail.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Willingness to ride along in a truck for full shifts, including early mornings. (CDL not required — curiosity is.)
• Good sense of humor
• 2.5 GPA or higher
