The Inserting Setup Mechanic is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining inserting equipment to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality production. This position performs routine machine setups, including feeders, counters, glue systems, and basic inserting jobs, while troubleshooting jams and responding to quality and production concerns. The Inserting Setup Mechanic works closely with team members, supervisors, and maintenance to minimize downtime, maintain equipment performance, and ensure production requirements are met. This role also helps maintain a clean and safe work environment and supports team members in understanding and performing their production line responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Start/stop the machine (normal stop and estop)
- Safely remove a jam from equipment without risk or injury or damage to the equipment
- Safely power up/down the equipment
- Identify glue required, and keep the glue tanks properly filled
- Effectively communicate requirements with other team members on the attacher, supervision, and maintenance
- Ensures all required documentation is completed on the production line for all team members and turned in to the supervisor
- Responds to QC alerts and concerns with the required measures to satisfy the situation by requesting the right assistance (supervision, setup, or mechanical technician, etc)
- Alerts supervisor to any condition where excessive downtime is being experienced
- Leads initiative to keep the area clean and safe throughout the shift
- Knowledge of all positions on a production line to assist in other’s understanding their roles and performing them
- Performs routine setup tasks: setup various feeders; setup/operate product counters; glue systems, able to setup basic inserting jobs
- Setup and maintain Bell and Howell Producer inserters, W&D (burrs) inserters, Lake Imaging Vision System, Domino K600i UV Inkjet System
- Setup glue (hot melt) in lines, elongated dots, and dots per job ticket
- Ability to walk/stand for entire work shift
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills required
- Ability to read and follow job tickets, complete required production documentation, and communicate effectively with team members, supervision, and maintenance required.
- Prior experience in inserting, bindery, mailing, printing, production, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience setting up, operating, troubleshooting, or maintaining inserting equipment, feeders, glue systems, product counters, vision systems, or inkjet systems preferred.
- MSD high speed inserter, FlowMaster and CMC inserting equipment preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically capable of working long hours, standing, and/or walking repeatedly throughout the shift.
