Description

 Summary:

The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading daily manufacturing operations for assigned department through communication and coordination with all Production departments including machining, welding, paint, assembly, and fabrication to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role focuses on frontline execution, workforce leadership, and meeting production targets while collaborating closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance to support process improvements and equipment reliability. The Shop Supervisor drives accountability, standard work adherence, and continuous improvement within the shop environment.

Principle Duties and Areas of Responsibility:

  • Production Leadership & Execution
  • Lead and supervise daily production activities of assigned department.
  • Communicate and coordinate across machining, welding, fabrication, paint, and assembly areas.
  • Ensure production schedules are executed safely, efficiently, and on time.
  • Monitor workflow, staffing, and material availability to meet throughput and delivery goals.
  • Coordinate shift activities and allocate resources to balance workload across departments.
  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Supervise, coach, and develop production employees across multiple disciplines.
  • Set clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and attendance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Train employees on standard work, job expectations, safe work practices, and other requirements as needed.
  • Quality & Process Adherence
  • Ensure adherence to established work instructions, process standards, and quality requirements.
  • Identify and address quality issues in real time and escalate as needed.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to implement corrective actions.
  • Reinforce standardized work practices and prevent deviation from approved processes.
  • Safety & Workplace Environment
  • Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing company safety policies and OSHA compliance.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures including LOTO where applicable.
  • Lead safety discussions, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Promote housekeeping and organization through 5S practices.

 

  • Coordination with Engineering & Maintenance
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to support process improvements and new product introductions.
  • Provide feedback on manufacturability, tooling, and process challenges from the shop floor.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to address equipment issues and minimize downtime. 
  • Support implementation of new equipment, tooling, and layout changes.
  • Productivity & Continuous Improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Identify inefficiencies and waste in daily operations and take corrective action.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives such as 5S, standardized work, and visual management.
  • Track and communicate key production metrics including output, efficiency, scrap, and downtime.
  • Material & Inventory Coordination
  • Ensure materials, components, and tools are available to support production schedules.
  • Coordinate with planning and warehouse teams to resolve shortages or discrepancies.
  • Maintain control of WIP and ensure proper material flow through the shop. 

Qualifications:

  • Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or technical training in manufacturing or related field preferred.
  • Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in machining, welding, fabrication, paint, and/or assembly operations strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production workflows.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, routings, and work instructions.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production reporting.
  • Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools.
