Job Opportunity: SMT Process Engineer

Location: Onsite in North Logan, UT


At Spartronics, the SMT Process Engineer develops or improves manufacturing processes for new or existing products. Performs advanced, long term and complex project management for the development, implementation and maintenance of surface mount and/or through hole printed circuit board assemblies. Applies lean manufacturing principles to improve production quality or decrease manufacturing costs. This role plays a critical part in identifying process improvement opportunities, supporting internal Spartronics teams, and interfacing with external machine shops as needed to ensure quality and efficiency in tooling design and implementation.


What a Day Looks Like:

  • Develop, analyze and improve processes to increase efficiency of production, analyze root cause, generate reports and implement corrective or preventative actions.
  • Preview, introduce and review prototype and provide feedback to customer to increase manufacturability and efficiencies.
  • Investigate, establish and implement requirements for equipment tooling, materials, and methods of manufacturing including make or buy decisions and facility layout as required for new or revised products from pilots through normal production.
  • Interface with appropriate internal department personnel to ensure process integrity.
  • Prepare and rework labor cost estimate and manufacturing cost reduction plans.
  • Monitor process improvement data including flow, efficiency, and layout.
  • Plan and schedule maintenance and calibrations on production equipment.
  • Plan and execute studies aimed at enhancing equipment efficiency in terms of quality, availability, and throughput.
  • Provide training and support to manufacturing operations, resolving process-related issues and ensuring stable optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to develop, enhance and implement, robust tooling and process solutions.
  • Provide training on Lean/Six Sigma tools and methodologies to build a continuous improvement mindset across the organization.
  • Create process documents related to specific job functions.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering.
  • 3 – 5 years related work experience.
  • Strong understanding of engineering practices and procedures regarding electronic components and manufacturing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with advanced PCB technologies; strong in time and motion measurement of operations
  • Utilize experience/judgment to develop solutions for moderately complex engineering issues.
  • Intermediate level failure analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and also in a team environment.
  • Intermediate level computer skills including Microsoft Office and CAD/CAM.
  • Ability to self-manage, organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent analytical skills using Six Sigma and Lean Principles.
  • Must be U.S. persons within the definition of ITAR, with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance.?ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Green/black belt certification.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Experience with HSM Express or similar CAM software.
  • 3D Printing experience with Prusa and PrusaSlicer or similar.
  • Experience with inspection equipment and measuring tools - Optical Comparator.
  • Experience with laser etching and laser de panel of flex circuits.
  • Strong DFM and NPI skills.

Compensation: Compensation is based on work experience, education, and prior work experience in electronics manufacturing.
