Description

This is an exempt level position that is a multi-faceted position responsible for conducting clinical audits, coordinating, and performing RN and CNA skill assessments and supervisory visits, and developing, coordinating, and delivering education and training programs for clinical staff.  The Clinical Educator ensures that staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.  The role supports staff development through new-hire orientation, ongoing education, competency assessments, and professional development initiatives.  In collaboration with clinical leadership, the Clinical Educator identifies learning needs, implements evidence-based practices, and promotes continuous improvement in clinical performance, staff competency, and patient outcomes.

Physical Demands

This job requires an employee to stand, talk and hear. There are frequent standing and walking, and occasionally sit, bend, kneel, stoop or crouch. This position requires frequent use of hands and fingers and may require reaching in front or above shoulders, feeling or grasping. The employee will frequently lift to 35 pounds and occasionally move 100 pounds.

Work Environment

Work is performed in both a typical office environment, Hospice Alliance Hospice House, patient homes, skilled nursing facilities or any other place where a patient calls home or other patient care areas. There is a potential for exposure to animals, smoke, unpleasant odors and a vulnerability to contagious diseases or infections. This position requires some driving to the patient’s location to observe, educate or train patient care team members. Driving could present danger in inclement weather.

Work Schedule 

Core work schedule is 8am to 4:30pm, Monday  through Friday.  Participates in the weekend and holiday rotation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with others to ensure competency of staff. Provides ongoing assessment of learning needs for all staff members, plans, coordinates, and evaluates the educational programs provided by the organization.  Provides a range of appropriate educational offerings that meets the needs of all Hospice Alliance employees across their individual development span from novice to expert.
  • Compiling and/or creating orientation and educational materials, schedules and/or coordinating presentations, and creating self-study modules that support the accomplishment of organizational staff development goals.
  • Work in collaboration with the Marketing & Development department to plan and coordinate professional community education offerings.
  • Is the initial educational resource person for newly hired certified nursing assistant and nursing staff and conducts a skill check of these personnel in the skills lab.
  • Keeps records of clinical educational and training programs provided for clinical staff. In conjunction with the team leaders,        monitors staff compliance of completion of required education.
  • Schedules & tracks CPR classes and renewals for all clinical staff.
  • Assists Director with creating and updating the preceptor program.
  • Assists Director with entry, review, follow up of complaints under her direction.
  • Responsible for conducting the following audits: admissions audits, discharge audits, tracer audits and other requested audits as needed. 
  • Reports audit findings and trends to clinical management.
  • Communicates audit findings to the responsible team member and establishes expectations for the correction of a found issue. 
  • A carbon copy of requests to correct a found issue are to be sent to a team member’s direct manager so they are aware of the need to follow up with their team member if needed.
  • Conducts new hire skill checks or reeducation skill checks as requested for RN’s, LPN’s and CNAs.
  • Conducts annual supervisory visits with all newly hired RN’s, LPN’s and CNA’s and annually thereafter. Annual supervisory        visits should be completed prior to December 1 of each year for all currently employed RN’s, LPN’s and CNAs.
  • Assists with patient admissions, consultations and visits as needed.
  • Participate in the assigned weekend and holiday rotations.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in the specialty area relevant to the organization (e.g., hospice, palliative care, acute care, or home health).
  • Prior experience in staff education, clinical training, orientation programs, or preceptorship preferred
  • Able to cope with emotional stress and be tolerant of individual lifestyles.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills are essential
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to solve problems.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational programs, competency assessments, and clinical training materials preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards related to healthcare education and clinical practice.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and healthcare documentation practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and mentoring skills with the ability to educate staff with varying levels of clinical experience.
  • Strong computer skills are required, such as email, excel, and Word.
