Description
Lead, motivate, and develop the shipping team while supervising daily operations, labor distribution, safety, quality, and productivity. Work in equal partnership with other department supervisors to ensure consistent standards, seamless handoffs, and achievement of deadlines. Use metrics, coaching, and continuous improvement to build capability and deliver reliable customer service.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate, and hold team members accountable for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and conduct.
- Direct daily shipping operations; assign labor, manage staffing, control overtime, and adjust resources to meet workload and deadlines.
- Partner with the other department supervisors on labor planning, shift handoffs, priorities, quality standards, and operational continuity.
- Own all new-hire onboarding and training; maintain records and confirm safety, equipment, and process readiness.
- Continuously coach all team members and maintain cross-training and skill-development plans to improve flexibility and bench strength.
- Manage and approve timecards and PTO requests while maintaining appropriate operational coverage.
- Track safety, quality, productivity, labor, and accuracy metrics; prepare various daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Verify trainee-completed orders for accuracy and complete daily random quality and accuracy inspections.
- Oversee shipping documentation, Bills of Lading, customer requirements, and domestic and international outbound shipments.
- Investigate quality, inventory, safety, and process issues; complete root-cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner with the Warehouse Manager and Human Resources on recruiting, performance management, employee relations, and retention.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of warehouse, logistics, manufacturing, or distribution experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Demonstrated ability to lead hourly teams, coach performance, manage labor, solve problems, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, organization, judgment, data-analysis, and problem-solving skills; proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, logistics, operations management, or a related field.
- WMS, KPI-based performance management, or continuous improvement experience.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Be in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures and moderate noise.
- Must frequently manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and adapt to shifting demands while ensuring all responsibilities are completed accurately and by established deadlines.
