Job Overview:

The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and supporting infrastructure at Defense Supply Center Columbus. The role uses practical knowledge of multiple trades, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and basic electrical work, to complete preventive and demand maintenance orders safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements.


Support Hours: Applicant shall be available during core work hours as established the Government customer.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, fixtures, and supporting systems using practical knowledge of multiple trades.
  • Patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings using plaster or compound and paint structures, surfaces, and equipment.
  • Repair or replace concrete floors, steps, sidewalks, damaged paneling, floor tiles, doors, locks, and broken window panes.
  • Perform general preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment and machinery in accordance with work orders and manufacturer instructions.
  • Inspect work areas and equipment, identify deficiencies or hazards, and report conditions requiring a licensed skilled-trade worker or specialized support.
  • Read and follow work orders, basic drawings, product instructions, safety plans, and Activity Hazard Analyses.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and maintain tools and equipment in serviceable condition.
  • Follow PPE, lockout/tagout, fall-protection, confined-space, hot-work, and other safety requirements applicable to assigned tasks.
  • Protect Government property, conserve utilities, remove debris, and leave work areas clean and professional.
  • Support after-hours or emergency maintenance response when assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements/Education:

  • Practical skill and knowledge in general building and equipment maintenance, including exposure to painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and basic electrical work.
  • Ability to perform assigned work without exceeding the limits of training, licensing, or authorization and to refer skilled-trade work appropriately.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, safety instructions, basic drawings, and manufacturer guidance.
  • Ability to safely operate common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to complete required site, safety, security, base access, and annual refresher training.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience providing general maintenance in a commercial, industrial, military, or public facility.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance-management or work-order system.
  • OSHA safety training and experience working from Activity Hazard Analyses.


Security Requirement:

  • Must satisfy installation access and background-screening requirements and obtain and maintain DBIDS credentials and a Common Access Card (CAC), as applicable.
