Job Overview:

The Maintenance Plumber installs, maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs potable water, natural-gas, waste, vent, drain, and related plumbing systems at Defense Supply Center Columbus. The position performs preventive and demand maintenance in accordance with plumbing codes, manufacturer requirements, service orders, safety standards, and the PWS.


Support Hours: Applicant shall be available during core work hours as established the Government customer.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, install, inspect, maintain, and repair piping, valves, fittings, fixtures, and equipment serving heating, potable-water, natural-gas, waste, vent, and drainage systems.
  • Study building plans, drawings, and specifications to determine work methods, materials, routing, and installation sequence.
  • Cut, thread, bend, join, solder, solvent-weld, caulk, and support metallic and nonmetallic piping using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Install and repair sinks, faucets, toilets, urinals, flushometers, drinking fountains, water heaters, hot-water tanks, garbage disposals, dishwashers, water softeners, and related fixtures.
  • Maintain drains, roof drains, storm-drainage components, traps, sump pumps, lift stations, grease traps, oil-water separators, and trench drains within contract scope.
  • Clear blocked toilets, sinks, drains, and sewer lines and take steps to prevent sewer gas and plumbing odors from entering occupied spaces.
  • Locate and repair water, sewage, fuel-oil, and natural-gas leaks and conduct required system leak and pressure tests before restoring service.
  • Inspect and maintain domestic hot-water tanks, relief valves, circulation pumps, temperature controls, and associated components.
  • Perform scheduled sump-pump inspections and prepare complete inspection and maintenance reports.
  • Coordinate utility interruptions, as applicable.
  • Maintain clean work areas and restore affected surfaces and spaces to their original condition after completing work.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements/Education:

  • Training and experience equivalent to a formal plumbing apprenticeship, with demonstrated proficiency in commercial plumbing maintenance and repair.
  • All licenses, permits, and certifications required by federal, Ohio, and local jurisdictions for assigned plumbing work.
  • Working knowledge of applicable plumbing, natural-gas, potable-water, wastewater, OSHA, and facility-safety requirements.
  • Ability to read plans, specifications, work orders, and manufacturer instructions and to use plumbing hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to complete required site, safety, security, and annual refresher training.


Preferred Skills:

  • Journeyman-level plumbing license applicable to commercial or industrial facilities.
  • Experience in a large commercial, industrial, military, or federal facility.
  • Experience with sump pumps, lift stations, grease traps, oil-water separators, backflow preventers, and computerized work-order systems.


Security Requirement:

  • Must satisfy installation access and background-screening requirements and obtain and maintain DBIDS credentials and a Common Access Card (CAC), as applicable.
