About the Role
HealthCentral is seeking a Performance Marketing Specialist to join our Performance Marketing team. This role supports the execution, optimization, and analysis of paid media and client campaigns across search, social, native, programmatic, and other digital channels.
The ideal candidate is analytical, curious, and highly comfortable working with data. They should be able to identify performance trends, translate data into actionable optimizations, and continuously look for ways to make campaign management more efficient through automation, AI, and streamlined workflows.
We value people who simplify work, not add process to it. The successful candidate will look for opportunities to automate repeatable tasks, eliminate unnecessary manual steps, manage by exception, and focus human attention on the decisions that require judgment.
This role will work cross-functionally with Analytics, Ad Operations, Client Performance, Product, Technology, Editorial, and other teams to deliver against campaign goals and identify opportunities to improve performance and efficiency.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Manage and optimize digital media campaigns across paid search, paid social, native, programmatic, and emerging channels, with a focus on performance, delivery, and efficiency.
- Monitor campaign pacing and performance, proactively identifying opportunities, risks, and recommended optimizations.
- Execute bid, budget, audience, placement, device, and channel optimizations based on campaign goals and performance data.
- Develop and execute testing strategies across audiences, channels, creative, placements, and optimization approaches to improve performance and identify opportunities for scale.
- Develop audience segmentation and targeting strategies for client campaigns, including the use of first- and third-party audience data.
- Partner with Analytics and Technology teams to analyze campaign, audience, and site data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Support performance strategies across HealthCentral's publications, products, communities, and audience acquisition initiatives.
- Develop campaign reporting and analysis that goes beyond delivery metrics to explain what is driving performance, what requires action, and what we should do next.
- Use AI, automation, and agentic workflows to streamline campaign monitoring, QA, reporting, analysis, and other repeatable processes, while identifying opportunities to eliminate unnecessary manual work.
- Manage campaign QA and ensure tracking, naming conventions, targeting, budgets, and other campaign inputs are accurate before and during launch.
- Monitor industry and platform developments and recommend new channels, technologies, targeting approaches, and testing opportunities.
- Support relationships with media and technology partners and evaluate new partners based on business need and performance potential.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure campaign strategy, execution, measurement, and optimization are aligned with client objectives.
- 1–3 years of experience in performance marketing, paid media, digital advertising, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with one or more major advertising platforms such as Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, Taboola, Outbrain, or programmatic/DSP platforms.
- Strong understanding of digital media fundamentals, including CPM, CPC, CTR, CPA/CAC, conversion rate, reach, frequency, pacing, and budget management.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities within campaign data.
- Proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets, including working with datasets, formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and reporting.
- Experience with analytics and reporting platforms such as Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Sigma, or similar tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with AI tools, workflow automation, or agentic AI is strongly preferred, with an expectation that AI will be incorporated into everyday campaign management and analysis.
- Ability to evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities to automate, consolidate, simplify, or eliminate manual steps.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly around campaign setup, tracking, budgets, pacing, and data quality.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate performance data into concise insights and recommendations.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple campaigns and priorities simultaneously.
- A test-and-learn mindset and curiosity about new technologies, channels, audiences, and approaches to improving both campaign performance and the processes supporting it.
