Summary
This full-time position is part of GCB's Summer Internship Program, which is scheduled to run from Monday, May 17th through Friday, July 23rd, potentially extending through mid-August based on the decision of the hiring manager and department. Additionally, interns must participate in a Final Internship Presentation located in New Orleans on Thursday, July 22nd. Candidates must be available for the full duration of the program to ensure a consistent and meaningful learning experience.
The Consumer Banking Management internship is part of the retail banking division that supports the company’s client relationships and is a key function of the company’s primary business. This is a rotational career development program where you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in various areas of the branch to learn and be able to manage and lead a financial center. The rotational program will consist of responsibilities as a universal banker, certified relationship banker, operations officer, and branch manager.
Responsibilities
- Gain firsthand insight into how our Retail team serve customers and support their communities while developing leadership, public speaking, and professional communication skills.
- Represent the bank alongside the Branch Manager at local community events, networking opportunities, and outreach initiatives.
- Support the Branch Manager in maintaining and developing relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Assist with and observe the opening of new consumer and business accounts under the supervision of a certified Relationship Banker.
- Partner with the Branch Manager to learn how resources are deployed to optimize team performance and support business objectives.
- Assist in resolving client inquiries and challenges through direct interaction and referrals to appropriate bank personnel.
- Observe employee coaching, development, and performance management activities to gain exposure to branch leadership responsibilities.
- Participate in training designed to provide an understanding of branch operations, customer service standards, and retail banking processes.
- Observe branch opening and closing procedures and gain an understanding of daily operational requirements.
- Observe branch operational processes, including account maintenance procedures, balancing controls, and operational oversight activities under the supervision of branch leadership.
- Participate in monthly branch security meetings and gain awareness of security protocols and risk management practices.
- Learn and understand the importance of internal controls, operational procedures, and compliance with all applicable banking regulations and bank policies.
- Identify opportunities to promote banking products and services that meet customer needs.
- Complete other duties, special projects, and assignments as requested.
Required Skills/Experience/Education
- Minimum preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Currently pursuing an Associate's degree, required. Enrolment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree will also be considered.
- Business majors preferred.
- Be a highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative.
- Demonstrates attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Possesses strong communication and teamwork skills.

Essential Mental & Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions.
- Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required.
- Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 15 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division and “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
