Tideman Marine Services (TMMS), a subsidiary of United Plastic Fabricating, Inc. (UPF), is a marine engineering and naval architecture firm providing engineering solutions for new and existing vessels. From vessel design and stability analysis to dry dock engineering and historic vessel restoration, our team works closely with vessel owners, operators, and shipyards to help keep vessels safe, seaworthy, and compliant.


We are seeking an experienced Naval Architect / Marine Engineer to join our team. This position will perform naval architecture and marine engineering work for a variety of commercial vessels, including tugboats, passenger vessels, fishing vessels, barges, and dry docks.


This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, solving complex vessel-design challenges, working directly with customers, and spending time in shipyards seeing projects come to life.


Location: Candidates must currently reside in Texas, preferably in the Houston or Galveston area.


Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

  

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform stability analyses and conduct vessel stability tests
  • Develop structural and scantling calculations for new and existing vessels
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses
  • Review and approve engineering drawings and vessel designs
  • Design and evaluate aluminum and steel vessel structures
  • Lead engineering projects from initial concept through completion
  • Coordinate with customers, shipyards, vessel owners, and other project stakeholders
  • Conduct shipyard and vessel visits for inspections, measurements, testing, and project support
  • Evaluate existing vessels and structures and develop engineering solutions for modifications, repairs, and upgrades
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable U.S. Coast Guard regulations and classification society requirements, including ABS and DNV
  • Prepare engineering documentation, calculations, drawings, and technical reports
  • Provide technical guidance and support throughout vessel construction, modification, and repair projects

  

Requirements

  Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Maritime Systems, Marine Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline
  • 5–10 years of relevant naval architecture or marine engineering experience
  • Experience designing aluminum and steel vessels
  • Experience designing vessels in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations and classification society rules, such as ABS or DNV
  • Strong understanding of vessel structures, stability, and marine design principles
  • Ability to manage projects and communicate effectively with customers, shipyards, and internal team members
  • Ability and willingness to travel to shipyards and customer locations as required
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with Orca3D
  • Experience with Rhino 3D
  • Experience with LiDAR and laser scanning technologies
