The Production Underwriter position contributes to growth, profitability and the overall success of the commercial lines department. Responsibilities include a combination of property and casualty underwriting as well as working with the current territorial marketing team. Priorities include deepening business relationships with appointed agents, underwriting a profitable book of business that fits the company’s risk appetite, and playing a key role in the growth and sustainability in the assigned territory.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively drive in new business submissions and perform risk selection, pricing, retention and other underwriting duties as needed.
  • Collaborate with marketing representatives to build strong profitable business relationships with our agency partners. Participate in agency field visits, industry events, or other relevant presentations for internal and external audiences.  
  • Assist senior management with strategic planning and territory management decisions and direct activity to see those plans are achieved.
  • Meet with existing agency partners, appoint additional agents where applicable, and participate with senior management in agent goal setting discussions.
  • Maintain a profitable portfolio of business focused on new business growth, strong renewal retention, and consistently achieving favorable loss experience in line with business goals.
  • Conduct loss control analysis with various resources provided through physical inspection reports, geocoding services, and catastrophic modeling services; communicates any loss control recommendations or required policy modifications to agents.
  • Multi-task and prioritize workflow efficiently to ensure timely and appropriate service.
  • Stay informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverages, and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.
  • Conduct or assist in new underwriter orientation and/or ongoing training of staff as needed. 
  • Prepare and complete presentations to management and/or agency personnel on underwriting strategies, results and business goals.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business, Finance, Economics or related field preferred. 


EXPERIENCE

Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant Sales, Marketing, or Underwriting work experience required.

Valid Driver’s License required.
