Director of Facility Management
Description

Location & Travel Requirements: This position is based at The Kennedy Collective’s headquarters in Trumbull, Connecticut, and requires frequent travel to organizational and contract locations throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania. 


Position Summary

The Director of Facility Management is responsible for the performance, safety, compliance, maintenance, and long-term stewardship of The Kennedy Collective's administrative, day, residential, contract, and warehouse sites. The role provides leadership and oversight across facilities, the Janitorial Enterprise, landscaping, warehouse operations, capital planning, vendor management, preventive maintenance, life-safety, and regulatory readiness, including oversight of janitorial contract performance in partnership with the Janitorial Operations Manager. The Director ensures operations are safe, reliable, cost-effective, compliant, and positioned to meet organizational and contractual commitments across multiple states. 


Reporting Structure

The Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and directly supervises 1–3 employees, including the Facilities Manager and Janitorial Operations Manager. The role leads a total operation of approximately 26–100 employees across Administration and Enterprise operations, providing leadership and oversight of facilities, janitorial, landscaping, warehouse, and contract operations. The Director works collaboratively with program leaders, customers, contracting partners, contractors, vendors, inspectors, and regulators to support operational performance, contract compliance, and service delivery. 


Budget Authority

The Director manages assigned operating budgets, maintenance expenditures, janitorial, warehouse, and landscaping contracts and enterprise resources, vendor contracts, supplies, equipment, and capital improvement projects. The role monitors costs, recommends priorities, and exercises purchasing and staffing authority within approved organizational limits. 


Essential Duties and Functions

  • Maintain accurate, timely, decision-ready financial, contract, workforce, and operational information. 
  • Communicate material risks, missed commitments, compliance concerns, and corrective actions promptly to the Chief Operating Officer. 
  • Hold direct reports, including the Facilities Manager and Janitorial Operations Manager, accountable for performance, staffing, service quality, safety, contract compliance, and follow-through. 
  • Maintain a consistent compliance posture across responsibility levels and assigned business operations. 
  • Lead safe, reliable, and cost-effective facility operations across administrative offices, day sites, residential sites, contract sites, and warehouse operations. 
  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of the Janitorial Enterprise across assigned contract and organizational sites, working through the Janitorial Operations Manager to ensure effective staffing, scheduling, supplies, quality inspections, sanitation standards, customer requirements, safety, contractual compliance, and contract performance. 
  • Develop and execute a multi-year capital improvement plan based on facility condition, life-safety priorities, operational risk, service needs, and available funding. 
  • Build preventive maintenance and asset-management systems that extend equipment life, improve reliability, and reduce emergency repairs. 
  • Own vendor and contractor selection, scopes of work, contract administration, service-level performance, and corrective action for facilities, janitorial and landscaping contracts and enterprise operations, warehouse operations, and grounds services. 
  • Drive janitorial and landscaping quality, customer satisfaction, staffing, revenue growth, bottom-line profitability, and staffing decisions across assigned sites.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently throughout Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. 
  • Ability to satisfy applicable background-check requirements. 
  • Demonstrated facilities, property, maintenance, janitorial, construction, or operations leadership experience with responsibility for multiple locations. 
  • Experience supervising employees, including operational management staff, and holding vendors and contractors accountable for performance. 
  • Experience managing budgets, service contracts, repairs, preventive maintenance, janitorial, warehouse, and landscaping operations, and capital projects. 
  • Experience providing oversight of contract-based operations, including service delivery, performance requirements, compliance, quality standards, and customer expectations. 
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, workplace safety, building systems, janitorial and sanitation operations, emergency preparedness, and compliance documentation. 
  • Ability to use Microsoft 365 and facility-related recordkeeping or work-order systems. 
  • Ability to participate in after-hours emergency response and work evenings or weekends as operational needs require. 

Preferred

  • Facilities Management Professional (FMP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), IFMA, BOMA, or comparable credential. 
  • Experience supporting administrative, residential, program, and contract facilities in a multi-site environment. 
  • Experience leading janitorial enterprise, landscaping enterprise, grounds, or another contract-based service operation, including contract management and performance oversight. 
  • Experience with government contracting, including contract administration, compliance, performance requirements, and customer relationships. 
  • Experience in nonprofit human services, healthcare, education, or another regulated service environment. 


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, climb stairs, and move safely throughout office, facility, mechanical, storage, janitorial, construction, landscaping, and outdoor environments. 
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, supplies, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and use computers, mobile devices, and facility-related equipment as required. 
  • Ability to drive frequently between organizational, contract, customer, vendor, and project locations and to read and communicate technical, safety, contractual, and operational information. 
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. 


Working Conditions

  • Works across administrative offices, day and residential sites, contract sites, facility and project areas, janitorial and landscaping operations, and outdoor environments, with frequent travel throughout Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. 
  • Regularly interacts with organizational leadership, employees, customers, contracting partners, vendors, contractors, inspectors, regulators, and community partners. 
  • May work outside normal business hours to respond to facility emergencies, weather events, safety concerns, contract-critical matters, or other operational needs. 
  • May be exposed to varying weather and temperatures, noise, dust, cleaning chemicals, maintenance or landscaping equipment, construction activity, and driving conditions. 


Compensation and Benefits

Compensation

  • Compensation for this position is based on experience, qualifications, and applicable organizational compensation practices. 
  • Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 annually. 
  • This position is not eligible for overtime compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
