JOB DESCRIPTION

Inventory Specialists are responsible for managing product: receiving, distributing, shipping, and ensuring accurate inventory counts. There are many facets to these functions including, but not limited to: quantity and quality control, accurate tagging, pricing merchandise and appropriate packaging for safe shipment to the products’ destination. Other duties such as assisting stores with inventory control and tracking, processing vendor returns and balancing of product between locations to ensure adequate inventory levels on hand are included in this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Receives Merchandise. Inventory Specialist (IS) ensures that all invoices and product is received, tagged and shipped to store locations as expediently as possible. IS must have an understanding of how to prioritize product receiving, considering purchase discounts and immediate product needs in stores.
• Support of Website functions. Inventory Specialist must have a thorough understanding of the processes of proper documentation of product for the website and reasons behind directing product to the website for photography.  
• Ensures Merchandise is Properly Distributed and Balanced. IS is responsible for distributing incoming merchandise as defined by reorder program specifications, by specified PO, or per Receiving Standards.
• Ensures Accuracy of Inventory Records. Inventory Specialist will ensure consistency and accuracy when creating and maintaining inventory records. IS is responsible for reconciling inventory records as outlined in end of month responsibilities.  
• Understands Inventory Programs and Merchandising Standards. Inventory Specialist must have a thorough knowledge of new technologies as they relate to improving the speed and accuracy of inventory processing from the time of order to the point of receipt. Inventory Specialist must be proficient in the application of inventory related programs as they relate to the day to day operations of the Inventory Operations Department. IS must execute Inventory Operations per Merchandising Standards. Inventory Specialist will serve as a resource to store personnel to solve inventory related concerns. 
• Understands Fundamentals of Diamond, Gemstone and Precious Metals. Inventory Specialist must have an understanding of factors that determine diamond and gemstone qualities as well as the processes involved with fine jewelry design and manufacturing.  
• Ensures Reorder Programs Operate As Specified. Inventory Specialist will manage reorder programs as per program specifications. IS provides information to Inventory Operations Manager and look for ways to maximize performance of reorder programs by improving turnover while maintaining in-stock status. This includes, but is not limited to, price changes, reorder points, adding or deleting skus and integrated vendor communication.
• Performs Physical Inventory Counts as Scheduled. Inventory Specialist will participate in and/or direct on premises physical inventory counts in store locations according to the physical inventory schedule.  
• (IS) will serve as a resource to store personnel as it relates to investigating or reconciling problem inventory variances.
• Ensures Quality Control Standards. Inventory Specialist operates within highest quality control standards throughout all day to day departmental functions, striving for both accuracy and efficiency.
• Processing Returned/Defective Product. Inventory Specialist is responsible for the expedient processing of the returned and defective product from corporate location, back to its vendor. IS must recognize and communicate to IOM, reoccurring quality control problems and suggest methods to improve efficiencies of product returns.  
• Ensures Merchandise Security. Inventory Specialist is responsible for the accurate documentation, inspection and security of all incoming and outgoing packages within the Merchandising Department. 
• Pursues Own Career Development. Inventory Specialist is responsible for his/her own training and professional improvements, obtaining and reading trade periodicals/literature and for increasing his/her career knowledge.
• Inventory Specialist operates in a spirit of collaboration and cooperation with other Day’s employees, with a commitment to problem solving in support of Day’s basic values.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment and scheduled visits to the company’s retail store locations for physical inventory counts. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

This position requires the employee to frequently sit, stand, and walk. Frequent grasping, reaching, and fine finger dexterity and motor skills are required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. The typical work week is Monday through Friday. Some nights and weekends are required during physical inventory counts, peak times and events.

TRAVEL

Travel is required and will consist of up to 5% of the work time. On-site physical inventory counts are required and participation in store events where an inventory representative is needed will occur occasionally throughout the year. This position requires the IS to drive their personal vehicle between company locations.  

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Prior inventory experience, jewelry product knowledge and/or jewelry industry certifications.
