Job Summary

The Plasma Table Operator is responsible for producing metal parts by setting up and operating a CNC plasma cutting table in accordance with work orders, specifications, and blueprints. This role ensures accurate cutting, quality control, equipment upkeep, and adherence to safety standards within a manufacturing environment. 

Essential Job Functions

• Set up and operate CNC plasma cutting tables to cut sheet metal according to work orders and specifications.

• Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, measurements, and cutting instructions.

• Monitor machine operation to ensure quality, accuracy, and safe performance.

• Verify finished parts meet dimensional and quality requirements.

• Maintain accurate records of production output and material usage.

• Organize, stack, and stage cut parts for transfer to downstream production areas.

• Safely operate material handling equipment including forklifts and overhead cranes.

• Perform routine housekeeping and maintain a clean and safe work area.

• Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.

• Support cross-training opportunities on related equipment as assigned. 

Skills and Qualifications

• Background check and pre-employment drug screening required.

• Prior experience operating CNC plasma tables or similar fabrication equipment preferred.

• Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic measurements.

• Basic math skills required for material layout and verification.

• Ability to read, write, and speak English.

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively.

• Willingness to meet overtime demands and maintain reliable attendance. 

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, parts, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques or mechanical aids when appropriate.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on hard surfaces such as concrete, metal decking, or ramps.

• Ability to navigate inclines, ramps, stairs, uneven ground, and production walkways safely.

• Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, stoop, climb, reach, and maintain balance while loading materials or operating equipment.

• Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm motions requiring manual dexterity to operate controls, handle materials, and inspect parts.

• Sufficient visual acuity to read measurements, inspect cut materials, review work instructions, and operate machinery safely. 

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and metal fabrication environment with regular exposure to loud noise, temperature fluctuations, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and production byproducts, all within OSHA-permissible exposure limits.

Employees work around CNC plasma tables, forklifts, overhead cranes, cutting equipment, stacked materials, and active production lines. Work areas include concrete floors, metal platforms, ramps, inclines, and uneven surfaces. Some tasks may occur outdoors or between buildings depending on production needs.

Required PPE—including hearing protection, gloves, protective eyewear, and steel-toe footwear—must be worn in designated areas at all times. Employees are required to follow all safety procedures, machine operation guidelines, and company policies.
