Provides supervision and direction of the radiology staff and maintains the radiology department within state regulatory compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school graduate or equivalent
• Graduation of a radiology education program under the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) with current Texas Medical Board Radiology Technologist license and American Registry of Radiology Technologist, RT(r) registered radiologic technologist certification required or
• Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with successful completion of an American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography examination
• Completion of a Radiation Safety Officer course required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Experience in working directly with picture archiving and communications systems (PACS)
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Establishes and oversees radiology operations, including the oversight of the Nuclear Medicine Program
• Practices and implements the radiation protection principle (ALARA – as low as reasonably achievable)
• Plans, organizes and supervises activities in the radiology department according to hospital and department policies and state and federal guidelines
• Oversees, conducts, or approves all phases of radiation safety training; assists in personnel training of radiation safety
• Maintains and approves radiation protection/safety as it relates to patients, staff, and equipment
• Investigates deviations from approved radiation safety procedures
• Establishes, implements, and maintains written policy procedures for procurement, receipt, transfer, storage, and inventory of radiology equipment
• Uses radiation safety equipment safely and in accordance with accepted practices
• Reviews radiation surveys and measurements, including periodic instrument checks
• Reviews personnel exposure monitoring and exposure action and investigation levels
• Maintains all records and reports required by license, including current copies of the license and applicable regulations
• Maintains service reports and quality assurance records on all equipment
• Recommends purchase of equipment and supplies
• Establishes a yearly Radiation Protocol Committee meeting
• Responsible for day-to-day operation of PACS equipment, including image workflow, archiving, auto routing, and prefetching and other related PACS activities
• Works closely with department employees to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission and RIS validation
• Responsible for providing PACS access and terminations as requested
• Analyze and design various user access applications
• Attends seminars and training sessions necessary to maintain appropriate level of professional competence
• Maintains positive vendor relations
• Ensures teamwork among department staff with other departments and within the department
• Demonstrates loyalty to the hospital values, supportive to administration goals, and ensures staff is informed and supportive of goals and directions
• Interviews prospective candidates for employment and develops the employee orientation program and oversees the orientation of new department employees
• Conducts evaluations for new department staff prior to the completion of a probationary period
• Responsible for completion of annual performance evaluations for each staff member
• Establishes work and call schedules and assigns duties and responsibilities to personnel
• Counsels employees, develops staff and, as appropriate, utilizes the disciplinary process
• Develops, justifies, and maintains a fiscal budget plan for the department
• Establishes and assures compliance with procedures, hospital policies, and quality standards for area of responsibility
• Maintains department supplies at consistent levels and conducts a yearly inventory of all department supplies
• Documentation meets current standards and hospital policy
• Discusses test results with attending physician and/or radiologist as needed.
