The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions that support accurate financial reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency. This role manages complex revenue recognition processes, conducts financial analysis, supports audits, and performs key components of the month-end and year-end close cycles. The Senior Accountant also contributes to budgeting and forecasting activities and enhances accounting workflows to improve organizational performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
· Process monthly revenue recognition for Time and Materials and Percentage of Completion projects.
· Perform monthly variance analysis on financial statements.
· Apply GAAP standards to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
· Prepare documentation and provide support for financial, FAR, and internal control audits.
· Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and anticipated cost reporting.
· Prepare and record monthly depreciation and amortization entries.
· Execute month-end and year-end close procedures.
· Implement and refine accounting workflows and processes to improve accuracy and efficiency.
· Process Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions.
· Review monthly financial statements for accuracy.
· Reconcile income statements annually and bank statements monthly.
· Prepare annual 1099 tax forms and ensure accurate IRS submissions.
· Create written accounting procedures aligned with company policies.
· Establish and maintain positive professional relationships with internal and external clients.
Minimum Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or similar programs
· 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including revenue recognition, auditing support, and month end close out responsibilities
· 5+ years of Federal accounting experience
Preferred Experience:
· Experience with cost plus fixed fee (CPFF) accounting
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of service-based accounting and project-based account methodologies.
· Knowledge and proven ability to process Service Contract Act and Davis Bacon Act project accounting.
· Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication and documentation skills.
· High accuracy in managing transactions and financial data.
· Demonstrated proficiency with Unanet accounting software.
Work Environment:
· This position is eligible for remote work.
· Ability to travel to Overland Park, KS, or Wyandotte, OK, quarterly.
· May require extended hours during month-end, year-end, or audit cycles.
Physical Abilities:
