The High School Speech Teacher serves as both an educator and minister of the Gospel by integrating biblical truth into teaching, relationships, and daily interactions with students. As an employee of Valley Christian School, the Teacher is expected to support and advance Valley Christian Schools’ mission by modeling Christ-centered character, cultivating students' spiritual, academic, and personal growth, and demonstrating a commitment to biblical principles in all aspects of the educational experience.

The High School Speech Teacher possesses a thorough knowledge of Speech instruction and instructional best practices while intentionally connecting learning to a biblical worldview. The teacher demonstrates a passion for ministering to students through teaching, mentoring, encouragement, and discipleship. The successful candidate must be a professing, mature Christian who wholeheartedly supports Valley Christian Schools' Statement of Faith, mission, philosophy of Christian education, and core values.

Role and Responsibilities:

The following duties are representative of the position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list.

• Teach Speech curriculum using approved curriculum, instructional best practices, and the scope and sequence established by the VCS
• Integrate biblical truth and a Christian worldview into instruction and learning experiences, helping students understand how Scripture applies to everyday life
• Serve as a minister of the Gospel by modeling Christ-like character and fostering the spiritual development of students through teaching, encouragement, mentoring, discipleship, and appropriate prayer
• Create engaging, student-centered learning experiences that inspire academic excellence, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students and promote their individual academic growth
• Establish and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, orderly, respectful, and conducive to learning by implementing appropriate classroom management practices
• Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative methods and adjust instruction based on assessment data
• Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, student progress, behavior, and other required documentation in accordance with VCS policies and applicable laws
• Develop, maintain, and revise lesson plans, instructional objectives, course outlines, and classroom activities that align with curriculum standards and School expectations
• Communicate openly, professionally, and respectfully with students, parents, colleagues, administrators, and other members of the VCS community
• Collaborate with fellow faculty and staff to support student success, curriculum development, and the overall mission of the VCS
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, in-service training, chapel services, school events, and other assigned activities
• Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth through ongoing learning and professional development opportunities
• Adhere to all Valley Christian Schools policies, procedures, standards of conduct, and applicable accreditation, compliance, and regulatory requirements
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the Valley Christian School’s mission and operations

Qualifications and Experience:

• Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony among others

• Agree to uphold Valley Christian’s Statement of Faith
• Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school’s Mission & Beliefs.
• Adheres to and honors Valley Christians standards, policies, procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
• Attain ACSI Standard Certification within one year of employment
• Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
• Prior experience teaching assigned subject(s) in a school environment
• Must have excitement about working with students
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software 
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
• Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in subject, Education or a related field from an accredited college is required

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

• Master’s Degree and 3+ years teaching experience preferred 

Physical Requirements:

• Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
• Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time 
• Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds 
• At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs 
• Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
• Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
• Work in noisy and crowded school environment 
• Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
• Frequent walking throughout the campus
