Summary:

SK&A is seeking a personable, team-focused, highly motivated, and results-oriented individual to join our company as a Summer Intern. The ideal candidate should be excited to work in a fast-paced environment where client successes and our employee’s career development are most important. As part of the SK&A family, engineers work closely with project engineers, project managers, Principals, and other key team members – owner/owner’s rep, architect and MEP consultants - to deliver sound, innovative, and cost-effect design solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Structural Engineer - Intern responsibilities include:

New Design Intern:

Assist Project Managers and Principals with design of concrete and steel structural systems for commercial, institutional, and multi-family residential buildings

Prepare design calculations, specifications, and analysis of new structures

Develop structural plans, details, and sections for construction drawings using various structural engineering software programs including Revit, RamConcept, AutoCAD, etc.

Prepare project specifications.

Perform construction related services including shop drawing reviews, response to requests for information, periodic construction site observation, and occasional specialized structural inspections.

Interact with outside architectural teams to discuss any issues that may arise during design and construction.

Repair and Restoration Group Intern:

Conduct on-site inspections and evaluations of current structural systems

Concrete testing

Visual condition survey

Conduct various structural analyses

Assist with writing field and condition survey report with recommendations on best practices for repair, along with a detailed cost analysis for clients

Maintain quality assurance during construction including, but not limited to:

Sounding of concrete and preparation of repair areas

Inspection of:

surface preparation for concrete repairs

flashing, caulking and masonry for façade repairs

Materials testing for concrete, waterproofing, and masonry

Willing to travel to job sites 50-70% of the time

Night and weekend work may be required from time to time

Qualifications:

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Able to build rapport with clients, co-workers, and sub-contractors

Good understanding of the architectural design process
