We are currently seeking a Systems Engineer to support the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) at Fort Meade, Maryland. The Systems Engineer will provide Linux systems administration, engineering, sustainment, and modernization support for secure, mission-critical, on-premises enterprise systems and services.

Key Responsibilities:

· Administer, maintain, configure, and troubleshoot Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems in secure, on-premises enterprise environments. 

· Perform operating system installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management. 

· Troubleshoot system performance, reliability, availability, application integration, and infrastructure issues. 

· Configure and maintain Linux services, storage, file systems, permissions, logging, and user and access controls. 

· Implement and maintain secure system configurations in accordance with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and cybersecurity requirements. 

· Support vulnerability identification, remediation, patch management, and mitigation activities. 

· Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Authorization to Operate (ATO) activities by providing system configuration information, technical evidence, and remediation support. 

· Develop and maintain automation for system configuration, deployment, and administration using tools such as Ansible and shell scripting. 

· Support integration with enterprise services, including PKI and certificate-based authentication, centralized logging, monitoring, directory services, and network services. 

· Support Linux systems operating within enterprise virtualization environments. 

· Participate in system upgrades, technology refresh, implementation, testing, and operational sustainment activities. 

· Create and maintain technical documentation, including standard operating procedures, system configurations, implementation procedures, system diagrams, and troubleshooting guides. 

· Collaborate with network, cybersecurity, application, PKI, and other engineering teams to resolve cross-functional technical issues.

Required Skills:

· 4+ years of experience in Linux systems administration or systems engineering.

· Hands-on experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or comparable enterprise Linux distributions.

· Experience installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux servers.

· Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems, networking, storage, file systems, permissions, system services, and logging.

· Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible.

· Experience with Linux shell scripting.

· Experience implementing or maintaining DoD STIG-compliant system configurations.

· Familiarity with vulnerability management and remediation using tools such as ACAS/Nessus.

· Familiarity with PKI, digital certificates, certificate-based authentication, and secure system configurations.

· Experience supporting virtualized server environments.

· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across operating system, application, and infrastructure layers.

· Ability to develop clear and accurate technical documentation.

· Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills:

· Previous experience supporting DISA, DoD, or other federal enterprise environments.

· Experience with VMware/vSphere or similar enterprise virtualization technologies.

· Experience supporting highly available or redundant system architectures.

· Experience with centralized logging, monitoring, and system management solutions.

· Experience supporting enterprise application and web infrastructure.

· Familiarity with F5 BIG-IP or other application delivery technologies.

· Familiarity with Zero Trust concepts and modern DoD cybersecurity architectures.
