Progressive Machine & Design (PMD) is looking for an experienced Internal Fabrication Supervisor to lead our internal fabrication operations and the talented people who make them happen.

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing our Toolroom, Waterjet, EDM, Boring Mill, Cut-Off, and Paint operations. You’ll play a critical role in coordinating production priorities, developing our people, maintaining quality, and ensuring internal manufacturing stays on schedule.

We’re looking for someone who knows fabrication and machining, but just as importantly, knows how to lead people, solve problems, develop talent, and keep a team moving forward.

At PMD, you won’t be managing from behind a desk. You’ll work closely with employees, engineering, project management, fabrication leadership, and other departments to turn complex automation projects into reality.

What You’ll Do:

Lead & Develop the Team

• Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Internal Fabrication employees across multiple disciplines.
• Establish clear priorities and delegate work effectively based on production needs and employee capabilities.
• Conduct regular team meetings and provide ongoing communication, feedback, and support.
• Oversee apprenticeship and employee training programs, including documenting progress and coordinating with HR.
• Support the development of employees through hands-on mentoring and technical training.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and other staffing activities.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Manage Production & Priorities

• Coordinate daily production activities across the Toolroom, EDM, Boring Mill, Waterjet, Cut-Off, and Paint areas.
• Review upcoming work and determine which components should be manufactured internally versus outsourced.
• Monitor production schedules and identify potential delays or capacity issues before they impact project timelines.
• Establish and adjust production priorities based on project requirements, available resources, and department capacity.
• Work closely with the Director of Fabrication and Outsourced Parts Coordinator to balance internal and external workloads.
• Monitor production and operating reports and develop solutions to address manufacturing delays.
• Coordinate outside processing such as heat treating, plating, and painting.
• Ensure routings and production information are accurately maintained within PMD's ERP system.

Drive Quality

• Maintain high standards for workmanship, quality, and production performance.
• Inspect completed manufactured details and address quality concerns promptly.
• Review drawings, blueprints, orders, and other technical documentation to ensure work meets established requirements.
• Help identify and resolve non-conformances and manufacturing issues.
• Partner with Engineering and Project Management to resolve print and technical questions.
• Support continuous improvement efforts within Internal Fabrication.

Coordinate Across the Organization

• Provide regular production updates to Project Management and other internal teams.
• Communicate capacity, schedule changes, and potential issues clearly and proactively.
• Assist with manufacturing process planning, including personnel, materials, tooling, equipment, and subcontracting requirements.
• Support time-critical projects, debug activities, and other priority customer needs.
• Assist with parts quoting and the development of manufacturing plans.
• Create and maintain routings and other production information in PMD's ERP system.

Support the Operation

• Determine material requirements and coordinate material needs with each fabrication discipline.
• Submit requisitions for department supplies and materials.
• Maintain machine and facility maintenance records.
• Coordinate scrap metal, scrap wood, and paint waste removal with appropriate internal teams.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Enforce company safety procedures and proper PPE requirements.
• Monitor department costs and work within established budgets.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.

Required:

• NYS Certified Toolmaker
• 15+ years of related machining/fabrication experience preferred
• Strong leadership and people-management skills
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and changing demands
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with employees and leaders across multiple departments
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience working with ERP/MRP systems

Preferred:

• NYS Certified Diemaker
• Experience leading a Toolroom, Fabrication, or Manufacturing department
• Experience with apprenticeship or skilled-trade training programs
• Experience in a highly engineered or custom manufacturing environment
• ITAR experience
• ISO 9001:2015 experience
• AS9100 experience
• CMMC experience
