Minnesota Women’s Care is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Surgical Technician to join our team on a part-time basis. Surgical Technician job duties

• Prepare the operating room prior to surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, medications, and equipment are available and functioning properly.
• Set up and maintain the sterile field according to infection prevention and surgical standards.
• Perform surgical scrub duties and assist the surgeon throughout procedures.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures.
• Pass instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform surgical counts in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Assist with proper handling, labeling, and transport of surgical specimens.
• Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and draping as appropriate.
• Maintain awareness of sterile technique and immediately address any break in sterility.
• Communicate supply or equipment needs to the appropriate team member in a timely manner.
• Prepare operating rooms between procedures to support efficient patient turnover.
• Clean and disinfect surgical areas and equipment according to infection prevention standards.
• Ensure equipment is properly maintained and report malfunctioning or damaged equipment promptly.
• Monitor supply levels and expiration dates.
• Assist with maintaining an organized, clean, and procedure-ready surgical environment.

Patient Care & Safety

• Promote patient privacy, dignity, comfort, and safety throughout the surgical experience.
• Follow patient identification, procedural verification, and surgical time-out requirements.
• Follow infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, and organizational safety standards.
• Recognize and immediately communicate patient safety concerns to the appropriate clinical staff.
• Participate in emergency preparedness and respond appropriately during urgent or emergency situations.

Teamwork & Communication

• Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other members of the clinical team.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with providers, coworkers, patients, and families.
• Assist with surgical workflow and room turnover to maintain an efficient procedure schedule.
• Demonstrate flexibility and assist other clinical areas when surgical responsibilities have been completed and operational needs require additional support.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, quality improvement activities, and continuing education as required.
• Maintain a positive, professional, and patient-focused approach.

Required

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent surgical training/experience.
• Knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical instrumentation, infection prevention, and sterilization procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
• Previous experience in an outpatient surgical center, ambulatory surgery center, hospital operating room, or in-office surgical setting.
• Experience with OB/GYN or women's health surgical procedures.
• Experience with instrument processing and sterilization.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures.
• Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and assist with patient positioning as required.
• Ability to lift and move surgical equipment and supplies consistent with organizational safety requirements.
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity are necessary to safely handle surgical instruments and equipment.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
