Job Purpose and Objectives:


Responsible for processing vehicle registration and renewals for Montgomery County.

1. Ability to operate office machines and equipment

2. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs

3. Ability to receive cash payments, count change back to customers, and balance daily cash drawer

4. Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work

5. Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently

6. Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner

Job Competencies: Essential Functions include the following. Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Schedule and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.

  1. Manages customer accounts and updates information as needed
  2. Processes various registration transactions daily, including titles, permits, registrations, and license plates
  3. Assists customers with obtaining insurance identification from insurance companies as needed
  4. Processes web renewals
  5. Scans all necessary documents to finalize all transactions
  6. Processes lien and security interest releases and adds them for financial institutions
  7. Reissues lost or stolen license plates
  8. Processes new or renewal disabled place cards
  9. Collects all motor vehicle and recreational vehicle taxes for the county
  10. Processes antique tax payments received at the counter and the mail, then faxes statements to the satellite office upon request
  11. Answers phones when not assisting customers
  12. Responds to calls and messages for property tax estimates and sales tax on new purchases for tag and title registrations
  13. Corresponds by phone or letter with customers for additional payment for interest due, checks written out incorrectly, or anything that is preventing their payment from being processed
  14. Mail receipts for transactions received in the daily mail
  15. Responsible for balancing the cash drawer daily
  16. Retains a record of returned license plates and prepares plates for shipping
  17. Processes replacement title applications
  18. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
  19. Attends conferences, meetings, and conference calls to learn new methods, rules, and laws
  20. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
  21. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  22. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
  23. Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic
Salary Description
$15.15-$18.86 DOE
